Welding Rear Torque Arm

The sled is a 2002 600 RMK 136". I just found a crack on the left side of the rear torque arm. It's on the joint where the cross tube and the square tube are welded. Does anyone know if it's possible to reweld this or should I find a new one?

Also, the OEM torsion springs are listed as .347/77, can I install a set of .359/77 to help beef up the rear. I think the original springs have gone a little soft as they are set on the highest/stiffest adjust and it sags quite a bit with no weight on the rear. Any info/suggestions on this would be great. I'll be watch for some replacement rear shocks as well.

The torque arm is at the welding shop now.

In regards to the shock, is it suppose to extend by itself or just be stiff to push/pull the shaft?

Since it's apart, I just ordered some 6.375" Slydog black/red wheels so I can put the wheels inside the rails. For some reason, the stock rubber rimmed wheels are too wide to fit in between the lugs. I already had an IceAge axle that was suppose to go on my 09 700 RMK, but the billet wheels I got from CE Components use the 6304 bearing (15mm wide) and the IceAge axle is machined for the 6004 bearing (12mm wide). Tomorrow I'll relocate the track adjusters to the inside either by drilling the rivets or swapping the rails over. I'll have to see which way is the easiest. It needs sliders too, so the rails may be coming off.

No that shock should rebound by itself if it does not its time for a rebuild. That is if it is the rebuildable type, being on a 600 it might be one of the cheap throw away/nonrebuildable type shocks (all black, ends are welded together and not screwed in). If it is rebuildable Send it to Andy at Gasshockrepair.com he is the cheapest and best around. Check ebay for a new one, just don't buy someone elses used non rebuildable shock cause its gonna be crap. The Edge and IQ all use the same size rear shock.

Yep, it's the cheapo shock and to top it off when I went out to double check, it's leaking oil out the shaft seal. Just agreed to buy a Fox shock that a a 4M user offered me at a reasonable price - cheaper than another new cheapo shock anway.

I just got the new, non-rebuildable type shock a few days a go and it doesn't extend by itself. Go figure. Anyway the old shock was leaking out the shaft seal anyway and the way the GF rides and the age of this sled doesn't warrant spending the $500 or so to buy the Fox Zero Pro skid shock kit from Carl's.

Go all out and get the .375/77 springs, I ran the .405's when I owned my Edge RMK. Can find a used clicker rear for $150-$225, Edge xc's run the same shock.
