Weird Rattle PLZ HELP

Just wonder if anyone would have some input, I have a noise in the engine that I thought sounded like a wrist pin for the piston. Compression is 120psi a side. I brought my stethescope home and listen to each cylinder, no real noise coming from them.

When I put the scope on the Y-Pipe I heard this clanging noise, the exact noise you hear just listening to the engine. Could my exhaust valves be the culprit.

Thanks A ton
B

P.S. Forgot the mention I only listened to it when it was idling and rev'd up a bit

Clutches make A LOT of interesting rattly noises.
I've never heard an exhaust valve make a noise though.
I thought I had an engine rattle when I first bought my REV but it turned out to be the drive clutch and it's normal!

What sled do you ride? If it's an XP a lot of people have mentioned the same unknown rattle. I bought a can for just that reason!

Even if I hear the noise in the y-pipe, it still could be a clutch, Ive just never heard this noise until about a week ago. When its light out again I will take a look at the clutch.

I am going to guess it's the Jam Nut on the Drive clutch??? Look under the Spring you might see it floping around. It's worth a look.

how many miles on it? If the groove between the oil pump-water pump drive gets worn, they get a very noticable knock at lower rpms. At 3000 miles, mine was worn pretty bad and knocked.

I would pull your Y pipe off and look at your pistion skirts. Make sure there are no cracks or missing pieces. If they look fine i would pull the reeds out and try and see if there is any play in any of the rod bearings..........Check and make sure your buttons are still in on your spider in your clutch to..........

Its a start. Good luck. :beer;:beer;:beer;

Check my buttons on my spyder clutch......is that the drive clutch?

Maybe a broken crankshaft. Grab a hold of the primary clutch and see if you have any movement in it at all up and down, side to side.

Checked this morning, she is good and tight, no movement either direction.

I think Im going to take someones advice and remove my reeds check the rods and remove my y-pipe so I can see the skirts on the pistons.

Okay, from the sound of it, to me anyway sounds like its running on one cylinder. kinda sounds like one side is just going along for a ride.

EDIT: I just watched the clip again. Your motor moves around quite a bit. Maybe your mounts are loose a little? But, I wouldn't know because I'm not too familiar with Polaris.

I noticed the engine moving around as well.

Both cylinder are workin, it is definetly not running on one cylinder, still has balls galore.

I think Im just going to do a full rebuild of everything, that way I knows its done. Can anyone recommend maybe a big bore kit for it? I just love riding the edge design and wouldn mind keeping it for awhile

That sounds alot like a connecting rod issue....the lower connecting rod bearings go commonly on those sleds...seen it more than once. You can still have good power too...till the rod breaks completely that is. Check the rod...cheap in insurance. If you catch the rod before everything goes you can save the cylinders and cases and more.
