Weird Problem With Coolant System

Rode my sled (2002 800 RMK) a couple of weekends ago, and the sled boiled over when riding back to the truck (just taking it real easy), filled back with coolant, purged it, and everything seems fine when riding this weekend.

When I got done loading up, I opened the hood and I saw I had a small amount of steam coming out from between the cap and the coolant bottle. With a closer look, the cap had actually slipped up from underneath the thread on the neck.

It was still on and wasn't coming off, but I think pressure is pushing the cap off. The cap looked like it was cross-threaded before I owned it, like the cap can't get a good bite on the neck.

Anyone have anything like this happen?

I am probably going to order a bottle and cap just to make sure (as long as I can still get them at a dealer, it is a 9 year old sled )

I'd bet on bad threads on the bottle that's causing it not to hold the pressure which causes the motor to overheat. I had the same problem. They are flimsy in that area.

Well I found a used bottle off of a 05 RMK, so I think I will be good to go.

I thought I remembered a recall on something with the coolant system from 02.

Thanks for the info.

My 2002 700 144 Edge had bad threads and blew off cap 15 miles from truck and blew out ALL coolant. Used spare coolant (2qt.) Try getting a small handfull of snow down that neck enough times to make a gallon and a half. 3 hrs later my hands were frozen and it was dark, not to mention 20 degrees. So I said screw it and rode it w/o coolant. Engine went into limp mode. Took to Arcticcat dealer, THEIR BOTTLE IS MUCH BETTER and A bit bigger. No coolant was in hoses or engine, ran compression good to go. No problems and solo. They also have better start rope.(Higher rating)
