Weight loss on a M series sled. Other than pipes, seats and airbox

I know one can save a bunch of weight off a M sled buy putting on a Boss seat (8 lbs).

You can also save a bunch of weight by going to an after market pipe (14-22 lbs).

The BDX and Speedwerx airbox save 8 lbs.

That's at least 30 lbs with the above mods but........

Now what?

Does anyone make AFFORDABLE lightweight A arms?

What about AFFORDABLE lightweight skid components that can be replaced one or two components at a time (not $1500).

Maybe even a lightweight handlebars or steering column?

Are there any good bang for the buck, lightweight mods left?

After BDX, then look at the hood. Hopefully competition between manufacturers will keep the weight coming down. That is usually your most affordable weight loss program.

port track, cut excess off bolts, two wheel kit, headlight delete or mesh hood, ti springs

Check out http://www.alternativeimpact.com

Dan makes some great titanium and chrome moly a-arms

Ti saves like 6 lbs

If your talking about the 09 you want to buy then I wouldn't spend the money on the rear skid. Timbersled will set you back almost $2000 with rails.

The Boss Seat is a lot nicer. Like it a lot better then the stock seat I had on my 06 M7.

Jaws can saves 8 lbs. If you go with the Speedwerx pipe, that saves another 4 or 5 lbs.

I would go with the BDX or Cutler air box. Saves 8 lbs.

I've taken the headlights out of an M and they don't weigh anything. I wouldn't waste my time. Plus you never know when you might get stuck in the backcountry.

I don't think there is a lot to be lost with hood.

Pretty much the seat, pipe, can, airbox and a-arms are the biggest weight loss items. A solid 30 lbs can be lost there.

Thanks, I checked out all the links.

It seems like once the big weight loss items mentioned above are done. The remaining weight comes off in ounces and not pounds.

Thanks

there are a lot of other things that are lower lb numbers than the above but, there are a lot of things.

Brake (hundred something), oil delete($25 or so), wheels (free, or replace them with $69 dollar bd-x wheels), all the insulation under the hood & side panels (free, 4+lbs),
headlights are 3 lbs & don't vent at all, you get a screen & you're down weight & down in underhood temps, a arms are 4 lbs or so for around $400, powervalve delete is 4lbs, fastlane stering post (199) is WAY lighter than the 09 (I believe over 3 lbs but can't remember)

after that you get into TI & other not so cheap stuff, but that's a ways off.

lots more weight on the table for a reasonable dollar.

Get rid of.....

track-50lb
ski's -10lb
fuel -80lb
motor-100lb

Not much left to do w/o compromising quality and reliability.
You could lose 5-6lbs installing fox floats in front
Like mentioned above, BDX has some nice bolt- ons

Just buy and ride it Frosty

Oh, I forgot to mention the custom snow flap- maybe 3-5lbs:)

just weighed headlights with bulbs installed twice for accuracy exactly 2lbs. the deletes weigh something but not much.

Keep the stock airbox. Mesh hood, SLP pipe and Boss seat. 35-40 pounds, pull the rope and pin it all day. This is the most fun sled I have owned.

What about the BDX lite gear box?

I see it saves 11 lbs on the 08 and older sleds but it still saves 4 lbs on the 09models (so says their add).

It's $439.00 though, so it's not an inexpensive weight loss.

no reverse with the BDX I do not know if I am will to give reverse for 11lbs. I will find the 11lbs elsewhere.

Where do you find a BDX Drive for $439.00?
