webcam questions...

im thinking about setting up a webcam..

anyone know exactly how it works??? what does the set up intail???

say i wanted to set up a webcam outside my house and have a website..

hows all that chit work???

First off, go to a porno forum. There are a heck of a lot more web cams used in that profession. j/k I would like to put one at my cabin, so I could check snow levels. So I am all ears..:D

Most webcams come with software. best bet is to get a wireless all weather one. You would have to have it connected to a computer on location and there are programs you can get to run the other computer from your computer at home. It's pretty slick actually.

I like the idea of the remote wireless, my deal is I am to cheap to put dsl up there. OO, you would be running the camera through a network of some sort, that is how it would link to a web site ???? Not sure what you what to do. I know a little about network stuff, but, I call my IT buddy to say, I broke it, can you fix it.

Yea, that is what I am thinking, I'll start fishing around. It will take me a little time, I will let ya know what I find out... Got to get the machine up and running first. Oh Oh and pray for snow..

cams are sweet, there is one set up in west jelly that I have checked, ask one of the guys from that area in the location posts threads...works really well

You can do a cheap one relatively easily if oyu have always-on internet tubes and a computer that stays on... run a webserver on the machine, you can find scripts online (or write your own, "curl" in *nix comes in handy) to pull and save an image from a camera at predetermined intervals, then stuff that image on an HTML page.

I ahve a collection of webcams I stuck on a webpage, ... gives me a quick overview of weather and webcams... do the same thing, just pointing to a cam or two on your network.

a web cam of Florida? Did you get hit in the head last night?

Ok seriously I do check a ton of cams in Fl when I work over nights and watch the sunrise over the water.

Yeah, those axis webcams are pretty cool. ACTB has one on top of White halll on the UWyo campus. Easy setup and quick deployment, low maintenence as well. They're a little moar $ than a lot of people want to spend for a webcam though.
