Wear your TekVest or go buy one if you dont have one. I'll tell you why:

Ridin over at cooke with Bill and Kay from antlers, climbing good sized hill, over the top, flat light bout 10 foot deep 20 foot wide ditch, made it 19 feet...lol...hit so hard drove the steeing post through the lower bearing and broke off the mountain strap..3 broke ribs..whole chest black and blue.not a fun ride out bout 15 miles....anywho bought tech vest and wont even get on the sled without it...did another stuff 2 years later with vest, not even a bruise. Very good product.

How about a few pictures to demo why we should all wear chest protection... This is my 15 yr son hit the bars and pinned his wrist... Broke it in two spots..

For the guys that wear MX chest protectors - any brands to stay away from? Looks like Fox and Thor stuff on amazon starts at around $80. Are those any good?

Which ones are the lightest and allow for good movement while still providing decent protection?

back in 06 riding in and out of the drainage heading back to our cabin at twilight. Saw a crater made by a boulder and wind scour too late. Hit the gas figuring I could jump it and land on the other side. I landed on the opposite end of the hole right below the bulkhead. Slammed me (with a 40lb pack on) into the handlebars. Bent the steering post on an 04 king cat. Broke 3 ribs, 1 in 2 places, lacerated my liver, and partially collapsed my lung. Had to call search and rescue, ended up in the memorial hospital in Craig. Messed me up for a couple of months.
Now I ride with full protection. I got my vest and my knee/shin pads from a company called Kali Gear, pretty comfortable and relatively minimal. I forget I am wearing them. So far so good

I had a hard time swallowing $400 with no brace too. Leatt is what I chose, hopefully I'm not too hot with that.

I have the EVS now, had a Fox chest protector for a few years, only problem with them is they hold moisture if worn under your jacket. PM Boston Racing for the best price....

Are you saying to dress for the landing and not the air Sam? :face-icon-small-hap

Donnie whats up???? LONG time. Where you been? First Dbook sighting in quite some time.

The dressing part. For you, it would definitely be for the landing.:plane: For an old fart like me it is the crash.:face-icon-small-ton

What is your weapon this winter? Lets try and maybe hook up.

Sam

I've run a few different ones, the Thor seem to hold together a little better than fox, I'm on year 3 on mine & it's starting to lose some of the nuts that hold it together (they pull through the fabric here & there) but that's pretty good longevity for how much I ride & what a dipsh** I am.

Btw, my plastic goes outside the jacket, which allows it to catch/ deflect hits from trees without tearing my jacket.

I was also wearing my leatt every day, but I found that it pushed up my helmet too much, and after having it cause my goggles to be shoved up too much to see I decided to stop wearing it. I think I just need to get the different pieces to make it longer (from back to front) so that it will sit a little lower, or maybe wear the retainer strap that a lot of moto or DH guys wear.

You need the one for tall guys.

For you guys (and gal's) thinking of going to a MX-style, make sure it's a real chest protector (impact shield) and not just a roost protector (dirt deflector). Huge difference in what they're for and some don't know there is a difference....

That being said, most ANYTHING is better than nothing. Separated some ribs on the bars during an unplanned barrel-roll of my sled about 5 years ago. The TekVest has been my closest riding buddy since.

Are you talking about yourself or the chest protector....:behindsofa:

I'm using the same one posted by Jones34 above. It does not restrict your movement, but you do need to have room under your jacket for it.

So where is the place to buy them price wise? I've been considering one too. I'm glad they make mountain version because the snocross version is just too much. I've been hoping these vests would come down in price.

Iv got a used one Id sell ya. Probably only wore it about 10 times. Its a tek vest mountian version. Its an XL but I always liked the mx vests more.
