We've made this list several times on SW.
Time to revisit...

And may I suggest,
This is Colorado, if you see an area on a hillside without any rocks or trees.......its an Avalanche area!!!!! Don't stop there don't play there. Drive by watching for any movement and be ready to hit the gas at first sign of movement. And like the group I was with Sunday, stop and group up and go together closely at one of these sites.

Attached is an example of a remote trigger'd slide near Leadville, CO from a few years back.
Climbing marks on the right, slide on the left.

Broke on a TG layer 5' under the surface.
Same kind of thing we're seeing in 2012 w/ drought-sugar hidden many storms deep at ground level.

All survived - scary as schidt!

Please clarify/confirm that last sentence about group up because that IS NOT the thing to as far as I know because if everyone gets caught in an avvy then there is true mayhem and more than one may not survive and there may not be anyone able to search for other buried people.

Probably should clarify...sorry. What I meant was do not have a strung out group driving under a avy area. If you are single file but close if first rider triggers a slide and you hit the gas you are probably going to get through. If you are way spread out and one person triggers slide at least one person is going to get caught in it.

HUH?? It's one at a time! First one clears the path, then the next goes. Not sure where you came up with that goofy theory.....:nono:

Rocks are a huge trigger point

Please do not post about anything about avy terrain if you do not know what you are talking about... People can get the wrong idea or confused, I have never heard of this.

What I have heard of is to cross the threat area ONE AT A TIME...

Agreed P Money. It is one at a time. I am really speechless as to how the theory of "lets all get caught as a group" will work out.

I thought everyone in the group should ride on one sled to get through then run back to your own sled one at a time while firing off a .357 in the air and singing hallelluia.

You have four riders, spread waaayyy out and the chances of the first sled triggering a slide increases. Don't go through bumper to bumper but don't spread way out so first guy can trigger a slide to catch the last.

And most important go steady speed.
