Watercross questions....

Hey Tom, I still haven't seen proof that a turbo Apex can even float:). You gonna pull the trigger on it in a few weeks?

I am definately getting excited for a little water-x action!!!!

If your go to do ovals, the racers are also hooking a strap from the tunnel the snow flap on the left side the hold it in place when the lean into the corner, it sort of works like a rudder and pulls you around.

For the size many guy say a 700 is on of the best because of the mods you are allow to do to it.

I know a semi pro racer that ran a old 700 wedge polaris in the stock class and was vary compeditive. For the amutarures just staying afloat is the real race.

But hell your still on a sled. Good luck!!!!!

Hahahahaha....You said run the 8. That 1000 is probably a lost cause anyway, just saving you the headache of figuring wtf is wrong with it next season, this way you'll know.

what happens to your sled when it sinks?
do you have to pull the hole motor?

Nope, just pull the plugs, roll the sled on its side and pull 8,620 times until the water is out of the cases, pull the chain case cover and get all the water out of the chaincase, get the thing running hot enough to evap the water and you are golden.......

for you mountain guys that plan on racing out there and dont have a place to practice, for our race director for the IWA(www.iwausa.org) said there will be a full test and tune on friday and a short one saterday morning. You can go the the IWA website for more sled set-up for ovals and drags. For us guys coming out there from the midwest to race we will be doing ovals. At the last race we had it sounds like about 30 racers or so will be heading out there for the event. We will be willing to help out all you guys interested in racing out there letting you kno set-ups and how to make the sleds handle better on the water. for ovals a 121 or 136 inch track with 1" or 1.25" lug works best, front suspension is best when narrowed up and lowered for better corning for ovals, taking silicone to the belly pan where rivited to bulkhead to seal it works best and sealing all other holes or cracks, anything to make the sled lighter work, like rmoving headlight and taping them off, remove seat and put smaller gas can on like 2 gal can, i saw further up in the post about ported tracks, porterd tracks dont work the greatest on water. But there is a full page on www.iwausa.org website on hot to get started into watercross racing. Cya all out there Aug 7-9 #987 Chris Erzar

short tracks and smaller lugs work the best. pull the flap off the back to help water leave the tunnel better. try not to bounce the front end on the water too much cause that will get your belt wet and you will probably sink. dont have too much fuel or oil in your sled cause if you sink it will probably get water in it and will have to be drained. i silicone the belly pan and tape the vents on the clutch side and try to leave one or two open on the exhaust side cause heat builds very fast with no vents. also if you go to big on the wheelies it is going to lose forward momentum and possibly go down. it is very easy to hold the front end up on the water, the track gets an amazing amout of traction if you havent done it you will be very impressed. also wear a pair or gloves when you ride or you will have some huge callouses on your hands by the end of the day.

good luck
