Water Skiing in March

Finally got back out on the lake yesterday 3-11. Got to do a little skiing and wakeboarding. Half the lake was still frozen, and the lake temp ranged from 36 degrees in some places to 39 degrees in other places.

ok i love watersports and i thought i was crasy to get on the lake 2 weeks after it was all melted, when ice is still on all i can say is wow lol, looks fun though

BRAVE you are. Not even a dry suit can protect your hands and feet. The water cutting across your forehead feels like a knife. I have done that once and decided to wait another month or so before we went out again. The shrinkage must have been painful without a suit on!

I hear ya on all accounts. I've skied in 75° weather in late March with 41° water. The knife on the forehead is a good way to describe that.

The pics of the ice is a nice touch. HAHA. Awesome. :beer;:beer;

Skied in 33-36 degree surface temp water one year. 2 days after ice out. I couldn't feel my feet by the time I was on plane, hand were ok since they were dry. It sure sucked getting in, but it sucked even worse when I got excited and bit it!! And yes I used a drop ski. You would to in that temp and skiing behind a 115 Merc.

Yeah i wasn't lucky enough to have a dry suit, just a shorts and tee shirt wet suit, yeah i had to get up behind a '83 two stroke 90 hp johnson, (my boat is still in the garage winterized) felt like I was drug forever. I'm headed to Lake Havasu though on saturday for spring break so the water should feel like a sauna out there.

I would love to say you are stupid, dumb, and a lot of other colorful words, but the truth is I was there once. Waiting for the ice to clear off the lake and then on the first sort of warm day riding the wakeboard or tube. I bought a dry suit thinking that was the key to early season riding, but it nearly choked me out every time I put it on because the neck was so tight. By the way, if nature calls and you respond, flush out your suit before getting back into the boat. One of my buddies got into the boat and left a yellow puddle on my white seat. Those surfing wet suits are almost as good as any dry suit!

yeah the dry suit is a pain but we have booties for it. Just don't liek em. My biggest gripe is bleeding the air out once I get in!

I talked to a guy who surfed northen cali and he said the wetsuits made for that now are insane! He gets by with a 5/3. Also said that one company, I want to say Quick Silver but not sure, actually makes a wet suit with heating coils in it that run off of some batteries. Not sure how that would work with skiing but it's interesting.

I had a shorty wetsuit that year when I did that. I think it was back in 98 or 99.

Normally, I jump start off the dock, and don't get anything wet above my hip, but that year, the dock wasn't in yet...as it was too early. LOL

About 6 or 7 years ago we went skiing on the
Columbia River at Desert Air on a Saturday and when Sledding in Tampico on Sunday. We have a picture of us in the boat with a light snow on the hill behind us. Kind of cool way back then. Wouldn't even think of it now.

Horsetooth in March, you're crazy!! A few years back (before they drained and refilled it) we went out in May. I can still remember how cold that was, with wet suits.:)

A few years ago we used to always have a contest to see who could get out on horsetooth first. I have some pics somewhere where we were skiing while it was snowing. We did it without a dry suit as well. I think I am getting too old to try it now.:eek:
