water pump mechanical seal

Has any one ever done one in the sled? What is the best way to get it out? I know about the tool to tap it in. We did the crank on a 2010 600 rmk got it all back together and poor the coolant in the bottle and it is running out of the weep hole. I later found out the owner tried to pry the mechanical seal out to change the oil seal behind it, but decided not to because it was so tough to get out and we did not have one. He did not force it to hard but I am assuming if it comes out the weep hole it has to be the mech seal. Are they really sensitive and once they pop I guess thats it, it has to be changed. Manual says it can be done in the sled and to "carefully pry the seal out". We have the water pump cover off and it doesnt look to bad, but figured I would look for some tips or tricks. I appreciate any help. Thanks. Pat.

Ok. Is the tool a must? Seems theres some conflicting info on if you can justuse a socket. So just make sure it seats all the way in to the case... thats it? Anyone have any insight on this?
Thank you

on my 08 dragon I used a press to push out the entire shaft and the seal, and then used a socket to install it. have 600 plus miles so far on it and no issues...

The seal is tough to get out with out scratching up the case with the engine out.
The seal is a mechanical seal with a hard carbon washer.
If you pry on it it brakes the carbon washer easy.
The seal is 2 piece with a spring in the middle and has to be pressed in with the right spacing.
You can push the spring in a little when pressing but only about 1/8 inch.
One piece has to be pressed into the case and one piece has to be pressed onto the shaft.
Note where the inner piece of the seal sits on the shaft and press it back to there.
I have done it with sockets many times but its easy to brake one.
