Water in chaincase, what bearing to replace?

Water..

First, you would need to know what seal is bad, and why? If the seal is bad on the track drive shaft, does oil leak out or is there a film of oil? If the one on the jackshaft, same deal, oil leak out? If so on the upper which seal/side? cover or case.

how much water ? if its alot then its pretty much gotta be the lower case seal between the bearing and the outside (in tunnel near drivers)
what he said ^^^ look for oil running down the inside of the tunnel behind the case if you see oil then you know for sure

you will then need to
drain case oil (drain plug under sled) remove brake caliper and case cover
loosen lower gear bolt loosen tensioner take out gears and chain
loosen the track alot pull the susp. bolts and take the susp. out
run a strap over the seat and through the track to hold it up while you fix it
pull secondary loosen and remove drive shaft nuts on clutch side
then while you hold the track up off the drivers (help is nice here)
you can remove drive shaft by sliding it towards the clutch side and the out
then you can remove bad seal or bearing
i recomend changing both bearings on drive shaft unless the sled has very low miles and they feel perfect also a good time to check over everything and replace or repair as needed
good luck

let it snow

thanks for the info, i suspect lower case is likely. i'll get a couple bearings/seals and tear it down.

I would say the water is getting in from he the top but if the water has been in there any more a hour the bottom bearing has rust in it now so replace both . water and oil don't mix well and the water sinks to the bottom

I pulled the driveshaft and lower chaincase bearing, there was a lot of water in it and still seeping out around the seal.

While I removed the bearing, I'm still not sure how the seal is pressed in? Or how to remove it. Any tips on removing the Oil Seal would be appreciated. :)

Also, in order to remove the top bearing, do I need to unbolt/remove the chaincase itself? Whats the order involved there?

Thanks again for all the info/suggestions.

the seal is pressed in to the tunnel side of the case you have to tap it out
the hardest part is getting the new seal back in
take your time slowly tapping around the outer metal part and make sure that its going in evenly (you can make something thats the same size as the seal and use that to tap against wood, pipe , etc.)
if it gets cocked i will bind if it gets really cocked and bound then tap it back out and start again
its the same with installing the bearings

for the upper bearing on the jackshaft you have to take the retaining
bolts and cover behind the secondary then it will slide out the clutch side
then you can remove the upper case bearing and seal if needed
be careful when tapping out the upper bearing and support the top of the case with your hand or friends help it flexs if you tap the bearing out
a puller would probably be the best
when i replaced my bearings this season i messed up the upper seal when i was tapping out the bearing with a long socket and hammer :face-icon-small-dis so be careful
good luck
merry christmas
oh check the bearings by spingning them with your hands if they feel smooth with a small amount of drag thats good:face-icon-small-hap
any roughness, gritty , noise or slop replace with new

how do you figure its getting in from the top ? in the vent line ?
sincere question

if snow or water was getting in from the bottom , the oil would run out of the seal. Most likely spot would be the top bearing around the rotor. assuming it has been for a swim.
There is several oring to check. fill plug , shaft inside the bushing that is behind the rotor, top shaft seal on both side.
