Washout at Greenwater

This will likely burn up the last of the plowing funds for the year, so any big snows from that point on could get rather interesting. (or we would have to use grooming funds to plow the road) And No xpspensive, it is NOT the same pool of money for grooming and plowing. The fact that the same contractor has both contracts just means that if we rob Peter to pay Paul the money still goes into the same pocket.

Sounds like the same pool of money in the same pocket to me. If you get paid a set amount and how you split it is your decision.

I understand that so much of the money is set aside for grooming, so much for plowing and its the same contractor.
.
Anywhere else in the state, you would literally be taking money away from one company and giving it to a different one, and since they all have signed contracts, that isn't even possible.
Of course its not possible. I didnt say anything of the sort.

So if the road wouldnt have got washed out and Stafford wasnt going up to fix it. Would Ron have plowed the road this week or what?

Good question...I don't know if they would have agreed to open the gate just based on weather conditions alone. I do know that the cost for Stafford to walk the heavy equipment all the way up would be a LOT more than if the road is clear enough for him to trailer it up, and they have gotten a LOT of complaints about people having to ride bare pavement due to the closed gate. As for what exactly tipped the scales to get them pushing the idea of plowing the road and opening the gate, I would expect it's a mix of all three. But that's just my guess.

The road will be plowed this week,

All parties agreed to open up the matterhorn, the forest service wanted to do it over a week ago but wouldnt till it is plowed 2 wide and to their safe standards. We will have to use plow money and grooming money as both types of equipment will be needed, one side of the road has 1 1/2' of ice and snow. no plow truck would be able to move it so they will use the groomer as neccesary, Also, it's not fair to put the blame on the groomer, the plower or the forest service, The state parks contract says no plowing til december, well we got snow in november and by the time they could get up there it was almost to late. Very tuff plowing conditions. The road was "deemed" unsafe to some of the driving public, thus it was closed to all and the groomer took care of the matterhorn. We do have a plan for next year to see that this does not happen again. Any questions let me know. And one last thing and I know everyone is tired of me saying this but the facts are the facts, we dont have enough money in the snowmobile program to plow and groom when ever we need to, Hopefully it will all be opened by this weekend and back to normal

Thanks for the info. It seem ridiculous to me that snoparks/grooming/plowing are based on a calendar. It should start when the conditions start, some years that is November, some years January. Like this year people were getting tickets for riding snowmobiles in November when there was 4+ feet of snow but the road wasn't "scheduled" to be closed until December. It seems the Forest Service should use some common sense (HA HA) follow the conditions.

BROX, you have to look at the big picture

Just for info, the problem with closing the roads early is there is still hunting season going on in a lot of area's, if they close the roads they get jumped on and chasized by the hunting and fishing community. Plus dont forget about the Christmas tree people, the woods are for all, not just us snowmobilers, anyways, just for info, thanks

Jet- Don’t take my post the wrong way. I know you are very active for our rights and best interest as snowmobilers. I appreciate everything you do for our sport and thank you for your efforts. I appreciate the big picture and all activities and don’t want to put those out as I participate in most of them also. Can you share what the plan is for next year?

no offense taken, I understand

it is frustrating at times thats for sure, hard to figure out what the "other sides" want or are thinking, anyways, no big deal, dont want to say publicaly about next years plans as yet, got a few details to work out with state parks.
