Washington Avy Danger--extreme!!!!

With all the new snow--Probabley over 6' by saturday.

This is all sitting on top of a terrible multilayering of snow this year--But with all this new snow on top of a good 3 to 5" of hoar snow the avy's are so bad--the highways dept can not even get I-90 open. It is so bad up there it will be closed for over 24 hours before they can get it open agian. Most of the problems are not avy control(man made), but natural occuring avy's.

I am just asking everyone to ride smart!! Stay in safer areas and stay off the hills---
Be prepared and plan out where you are going to ride and plan safer areas--it is deep enough low.

They are forcasting 12" each day for the next 7 days for the hill, with what we have already of over 3' of new on this layer of hoar snow--that is a huge snow load just waiting to bust loose.

JUST BE CAREFULL OUT THERE---USE YOUR SMARTS!!!

I was out in my yard last night and as I walked on the snow it made that sickening womp noise that you never want to hear when you are on a slope. That is a seriously unstable snow pack!!!

After carving up such a thick surface hoar layer at Gold Creek on Saturday I could hear it hiss, I know it's gonna be scary come later this week without a rain event.

Keep you and your crew in check, there'll always be another powder day. Well, unless your DEAD.

I have heard the same (womp)before,above reecer creek 97or98.Stuff slid down into high creek thru the trees that I could not believe.Keep the eyes open this weekend!:beer;

Everyone talks about it, then you go out riding and there's still a ton of guy hitting the bad loaded up hills, right in the sun. Then we sit around wondering on monday why there's 3 threads of people dieing/almost dieing. That's harsh but 100% true.

It's NASTY around here right now (SE BC). We stuck to the meadows last weekend, and even in little cuts off the road or little slopes in the meadows you can see it sluffing, cracking, moving around, etc....basically everything that tells you to play it safe. There's plenty of fun to be had without getting carried away....

The AVY danger is getting even higher guys and gals. It is dropping snow so fast that the DOT cannot stay up with it and all the avy's.

Yesterday--several cars and a tanker truck hit in a fairly usual spot by a avy.

Today--3 more cars caught in a unusual area for a AVY.

Trees or no trees--Stay off the hills folks--be smart!!

I will be staying home with the family, I was up several years ago when it dumped 4 ft in a weekend and then they groomed, and all the hillsides started sliding on the roads. my wife almost got caught in one so I don't want to push my luck. I'd like to see my kids grow up. but anyone who goes up, make sure your batteries are good in your beacons

Was up reecer creek today had a fairly large slide break loose ( about 12" slab), My budding was already turning down when she broke, he was able to go through it and cut left at the bottom, I on the other hand had to turn straight up as it was all around me, and I didn't want it taking my sled out from under me. Was able to go straight up through it and I stuck it heading straight up. All is well great ride in the new snow. But do be carefull, its going to slide. We all want to make it home and return to ride another day.---Ken

Ken, Ken, Ken, sounds like you are a lucky man again! Glad to hear things turned out. If you check out my Icon, that's me racing my car in Sonoma California running Top Sportman. I'm wondering if running 6.80's @ 205mph, compares to the thrill factor, of out running avalanches?:D

Watch the video peps, it might make you think twice about heading over to the Gold Creek, Sammon La Sac area. We don't want to read about you Monday on SW. Think people...............

That was one he!! of a video, brings back old memories of a buddy lost on Mt Rainer, panorama point above paradise. That was the first time I had to hang on to a casket handle.Every one that rides needs to see it.

Dont think that "posers pass" will be safe if you stay on the road either... There are some steep hills that those roads cross...

I think I will wait a few day's as much as I want to ride it's not worth it!
