Warranty Question...

Hey guys,
I just bought my first sled. A 2011 Assault with 5.1 track. My dealer said that all the 11's had a 1yr bumper to bumper followed by a 1yr powertrain. The problem is, i got on the Polaris site and entered the VIN and it said my warranty was expiring on 11/22/11. So i called my dealer and the dealer reassured me that the polaris site only showed the bumper to bumper warranty and it will be good until November 2012 for the powertrain. OK, well I told him i wanted something in writing. He called me today and said "He was wrong it only has a one year warranty and i will have to buy a extended warranty before tuesday the 22nd........ WTF? Does anyone else just have the one year bumper to bumper and then nothing after that? And how much is the extended warranty going to cost me?

Thanks Guys, Let It Snow :-}

Did you buy the sled from that dealer? If so you should get the one year of warranty he promised you. Worse case he should set you up for cost. Warranties are usually high mark up items, dealer cost is prolly half of what he would normally sell it for. (not sure of this but it's true on car warranties). If he wasn't the seller I would highly recommend getting a warranty for as long as you think you will be running it STOCK or stock enough that it won't void your warranty. Sled warranties seem cheap and usually pay off. My dealer put the extra year of warranties in writing on the sleds I bought, just in case. I90 Motorsports in Issaquah WA always takes care of me.

Yea I did buy it from the dealer. I guess i will have to go to battle tomorrow. He said that if there are any issues that he THINKS they would just take care of it. I think that is BS and he needs to give me the warranty he told me it had when i bought it. It was a deciding factor... I would have never bought this particular sled if he would have told me upfront that it had a warrant for a week.

Nuttz:

Sounds like your dealer hosed ya. One of my riding pals got some price quotes from Tri City Poo.

1 yr for $800; 2 yrs for $885; 3 yrs for $1000; 4 yrs for $1120. All with a $50 deductible. That's a lot of bread to dole out for a warranty. I'm in the same boat, along with a couple of other guys that I know. We all have 11's. Decided to wing it and hope for the best. Yup, it's a crap shoot.

Wow That Sux... Like the post before said, hopefully they will give me the extended for cost.

Just cause Polaris doesnt offer the warranty he thought you'd be getting, doesn't mean the dealer couldn't step up and offer a warranty themselves.

i'm sure i saw plenty of adds last year stating the 2nd year engine warranty, anybody got thier last year snowest mags??? seem to remember there being a $50 deductable for repairs on the drivetrain the second year...

Most of the people I have talked to about it say the same thing. I hope my dealer is having a brain sh** and the sled really does have the warranty. Just sux I dropped the cash for the sled and had to buy all my gear at the same time, so I am kinda low on cash at the moment. I am new to sledding so I had ZERO gear. And if I have to buy a warranty i have until the 22nd to do it. Now I might have to drop $700+ for a warranty thats crap. We will see what they come up with tomorrow. Of course they called me about 10 min. before they closed.

You didn't say if this sled is brand new or used? I assume it's used if the first yr warranty is about up, but if it's new then the first year will be just starting. The 2011 I bought last year off the showroom, no snocheck, had a second year eng warranty and I was told that was the offer in Dec, when I bought it. If the poo warranty really expires and the dealer said it had a year remaining, he should do an in-house warranty for ya for free, in my opinion, and get it in WRITTING.

It is a used sled. Thanks For the advice guys... I will let everyone know what the outcome is tomorrow.

Don't mean to high jack your thread, but I have a related question....

Just curious where you entered your VIN on the Polaris website to check your warranty? I snochecked a 2012 PRO with 4 year warranty and picked it up in September. I have yet to receive any Polaristar paperwork yet. Been many years since I purchased a new sled, however, I always received a warranty card in the mail shortly after the purchase. Is Polaris still sending something to customers stating warranty info? I want to make sure dealer didn't drop the ball!!

Thanks!

warranty

Just wanted to throw in what i know from my experience... When i bought my 2011 Pro it came with a 1 yr bumper to bumper and a 2nd year engine warranty. The 2nd year was only available as a snow check option (so im told anyway). I fell into the deal because someone backed out of their snowcheck. Either way, it should have been transferrable, and definitely if your dealer told you that to sell the sled, i'd make them stand behind it.

Secondly, I also ordered a new 12' picked it up the second week of sept. and only a week or so ago did i receive my warranty papers and card from polaristar. it took almost 7 weeks to receive that. I was starting to question it myself... I have also heard (dont quote me on this) that the new 12's no matter what the delivery date, the warranty didnt start until nov. 1st. so that might have been why the paperwork took so long to get going.

Just my .02...
But i'd keep that dealer honest and get something on paper for sure!!!

**UPDATE**

Just left the dealer and this is what we came up with.....
One of the previous posts mentioned that the dealer cost on the warranty's were about 1/2 of retail so..... I got a 3yr bumper to bumper for 1/2 of dealer cost or 1/4 of retail. Also I think it is Crap that if you extend for 3 years it starts from the start date of the ORIGINAL warranty. So I purchased 3 years but it is only good until 11/22/13 not 2014. I am super new to snowmobiling so maybe common knowledge. Lesson Learned -Make them DOUBLE CHECK everything before you give them your $$$$- That aside IMO the dealer handled it well and I will continue doing business with them.

Thanks for every ones help.

I don't believe the warranty starts on Nov 1st regardless of when you pick it up. I picked up my Snowcheck PRO on August 29th and that is what my Polaristar papers say the warranty begins and ends on Aug 29th 2015.

I think the website where you entered the VIN just shows the warranty through Polaris. I entered the vin just to see what my Snowchecked Pro shows and it shows that my warranty on my 12 Pro ends on August 29th 2012. However my Polaristar papers show it ending on Aug 29th 2015 so I believe what you are seeing is just the Polaris warranty. After the 1st year the warranty is then though a 3rd party such as Polaristar.

It took quite awhile to get the papers on my 2011 4 yr warranty. Probably cuse the first year is a given??
