Warranty and Fuel Programmers, how have you made out?

So my sleds at the shop right now, Needs pistons and rings if you ask me. Polaris says its still ok at 105 compression on each cylinder. I did inspections through the exhaust valve ports and you can see the flaking around the rings.

Now my service manager called me up yesterday to say they are trying to get it warrantied, but the issue is the PCV on it. He is telling me that the programmers etch themselves into the ECMs and are detectable to Polaris so they may void my warranty. I can understand this, but at the same time when I bought the programmer last year they said it was a non issue. Pisses me off that a year later here we are and they may or may not warranty it

so, how has everyone else made out under similar circumstances?
can anyone confirm or deny the etching of a fuel controller onto the ECM

IMO not that big of deal. If they do not cover, go get RKT drop in kit and enjoy the season.

Did you buy the programmer from the dealer you bought your sled at?

Is this your sled with .7 miles on it?

My dealer never had any issues with heads pipe or pcv. I guess I could have gotten lucky with dealer but I'm fairly certain it's dealers discretion unless a rep is sent out....Also my sled was out of warranty by two weeks when it needed a new crank...

yes bought the programmer there

sled doesn't have .7 of a mile anymore, should really update that. 2300 on it now

I'd be on the dealer (which I'm sure you are) reminding them they stated no issues putting on a programmer.

What year is your sled?

My dealer said a guy got turned down cause polaris seen the velcro on the oil tank when the dealer sent pics. the programmer was removed but velcro tipped them off to look further into i guess?

Yeah my buddy is a mechanic there and said they have to send pics most of the time especially for the d8's they looked for Velcro and the foam on the hood you had to cut and put aluminum tape on. Best option is to keep stock parts and take aftermarket stuff off when you bring it to the dealer unless you've had work done there before and there cool with it, some are dicks and act like it's coming outta their pocket, unless they go over time allotted for warranty hours then I could see charging the difference if aftermarket parts caused the issue. And why would they tell polaris it has a programmer sounds like their trying to hang you, first I've heard of the ecu detecting the power commander. I had a burn down with using a pc5 and attune with a head and pipe and had no issues with warranty.

The answer to your question no the PCV do not etch the ecu but pics being sent will tip them off to a PCV

Etch is a myth. They wish it was that smart. Weasels. Takes a good dealer to get low comp warranties. In the poostars extended they go out of their way to specifically say they won't cover loss of compression or worn rings.

I,ve been at the front end of a service dept in few different businesses. Warranty is about how you word the claim and how good your past rep is to the company.

I always expected denial when I started in a new position and worded the claims that way and had all info ready to send in immediately (cause they always ask for more info to get a feel if you know your stuff). Usually by the end it was just the touch of a send button.
IMO warranty has to be that way to weed out bad or lazy dealers (like someone that can't tell you to your face that worn is not broken and warranty covers broken stuff) not weed out bad customers (like those that mod lol).

I don't use warranty if it is something I modified but I like to have it if something happens that is a factory defect. Poo keeps sending me letters to get my QD sprocket bolts checked and replaced.
I phoned the dealer last year and again this year to tell them just put it through because I did all that before the bulletin was issued. They won't.
Does that mean my warranty is void? Maybe but who cares because by the time I hit the snow this season everything will be modded in one way or another according to the fine print lol and they will have a legit reason to deny lol.

To have worn pistons and rings replaced is Good Will not warranty in my shop.

Re: fuel controllers...

Why would you expect Polaris (or Cat / Ski-Doo / Yamaha for that matter) to warranty the snowmobile that YOU have modified? To assume that anything you purchase from a dealer that increases horsepower and torque over what the manufacturer designed is fraud, plain and simple. Warranty is provided to cover a defect in materials and workmanship by the OEM, not abuse / misuse / or components that were stressed beyond the point of failure of the original design. The claims that are fraudulent add to the cost of next year's model, and all consumers end up picking up the tab. We have three sleds in our household (all 2013's that had 2nd & 3rd year warranty as they were snowchecked), and only one of them has warranty because it is STOCK. IMHO, once you've made a decision to mod your sled / bike / car / truck, etc, you'd best be prepared to eat ANY repair bill from that point on. Maybe I'm alone in this mindset, but that's how I was raised. Fraud is another word for theft, period.

Look up the Magnuson Moss Act. Polaris can't have a blanket policy that you modify your sled it voids your warranty. They have to prove that your modification caused the problem. We really need a sticky post with the magnuson moss act posted.

Magnuson Moss doesn't apply to anything but cars and trucks. Look it up. Does not cover my lawnmower or snowmobile.

At 2000+ miles you are overdue for new pistons and rings IMO.

To have worn pistons and rings replaced is Good Will not warranty in my shop.

My 2012 CRF250R calls out piston replacement every 15 hours, crankshaft and valves every 100 hours and it certainly isn't covered under warranty!

Magnuson Moss act cover warranties. Be it your sled lawnmower or wifes super charged dildo. This is the same law that makes it illegal for the dealer to say you have to run there belts and oil. This law is here to protect us but the sheeple would rather get railroaded by Polaris and there dealers then push back.

That's why I took 2 yrs warranty and 1000 in polaris money. Pays for oil and belts for two years. No point taking 3 years when I mod and pro don't cover wear a tair
