Warning! About totaled my new XP from SLP

You're right 100% I was not wearing my cord. In the trees steep and deep it's a real pain in the $#^%$&* I guess I'll have to get used to it. It would have killed it ond saved the day for sure...

If your trying to get them to pay for damages I am not sure you should be admitting that on the net. FYI

First off, that really sucks about your sled. Glad to hear your all right.

Secondly, screw the two little holes in the front airbox. Get rid of it all together. I took a piece of SLP material and screwed it on between the air horn and the back airbox and never looked back. You keep the stock box (which is important to eliminate the bog - negative pressure is required that cones don't provide), it's cheap as hell, and you lose 5-8 lbs in airbox. Just had to fabricate a little mount for the headlights.

Been running this setup almost the entire year with no troubles at all.

Good Luck!

i use a 3x5 2cool shock tower vent with holes drilled in upper air box, vent riveted over the 2 2.5" holes and nothing can get sucked in period.

After consulting several people "including SLP" about how to get more air into the XP. They said do not touch the lower air box but rather to put two, SLP's in the upper air box below the headlight assembly. I did and it's been working great for about two weeks. Then, without warning while breaking trail with some friends, the throttle stuck near full throttle, the sled went balls-to-the-wall across a ravine and took out a tree full bore!!!! After close inspection from my dealer, we found an "ear" from the back of an SLP vent broke off and got sucked into the carb jamming it open not letting the slide drop!!! I hope SLP helps me with the cost of repairs. They never say "do NOT use in airbox". They were even the ones that told me to do it!!! Help!!!!

You are installing a product of your own.....meaning, this was your own doing no matter who told you to do it. I think I would of installed the other kind that doesn't just clip into place. Clips break off. Easily messing up your motor! The grommet type work the best.

No opinion on the crash damage coverage - But I have to say, SLP's customer service on SLP part failures in second to none, these guys stand behind their products. I sent a photo of a weld failure on a pipe - new pipe in 2 days...

I have them installed in the airbox behind my carbs. The dealer put them in. SLP makes 2 different 2" vents. One is the vent with the plastic frame and the 3 little plastic tabs. (these are the ones that break) and the traditional vent with the aluminum frame and the rubber grommet that fits on the inside of the hole. Use the aluminum framed vents.

**Just checked, this thread is over a year old.

I would still see if your oil pumped cable is not frayed while it is apart. This sounds to be a common problem and the path from factory does not sound to smooth. All that plastic in you carbs and reads could have been from the impact on the tree. The doo airbox is a real thin crappy plastic that breaks easy.

My throttle just stuck too and my sled flew off the side of the trail. But it was tethered, so I just have about $500 broken plastic and a new bumper to repair. I did have broken plastic from my secondary chamber in the primary chamber. No signs of plastic in the reeds though. Chassis still measures straight from the a-arms to the drop brackets, so I guess I am lucky.
