Wakeboard Winch

had some buddies make one up, worked good but the clutch didnt last very long in it (centrifugal).

It made about a dozen pulls. I think it was 1000 ft worth of rope, limited budget from a bunch of college boozers!!!! 100% homemade with only like a 10hp lawnmower B&S motor!!!

The centrifigal clutch is the only way to go, this one was just way to small. A bigger more heavy duty one would have worked just fine!!

like a winch to pull wake boards in a canal or pond type thing??

had some friends that had one that went into the hitch of a truck not surre what they made it out of but i worked lol

To pull in a pond? i guess i'm not getting it. Do'nt you hold a rope in your hand and the boat pulls you? either from shore or in the water? Is the winch if you sink to the bottom and have to be hauled up? Or to lift over weight people up in the boat? i guess i have seen lots of people wake boarding and never seen a winch being used. Would a 4,000 pound warn winch work? I have two brand new ones forsale for 250 each if so.

yeah a warn would work hardass.

The purpose of a winch is so you can ride in water that is too shallow for boats or jet skis.

In my case it is so I won't be depending upon other guys for pulls(till I get a boat). The plan is to build a few rails in along our shore and secure a winch on the dock, or shore. Just something to have fun and kill time in the summer.

And the beauty of the winch is like Matt said, you can build them hella cheap with just about any old Briggs type motor. I've heard of guys using 5 horse deals.

Until then I may take a couple practice pulls with the 10k pound winch on the old logging tractor...just need a handle(logging cable kinda hurts).

Sounds like I need to search craigslist and then ask around about what kind/size of clutch to use.

my buddies built it up after getting hounded by the water district for boarding in the ditches with their trucks pulling them (remember broke drunk college kids) I helped them build a 40' rail that we setup in the river but needed it off to the side so no boats would hit it, to shallow and a PITA to keep hitting it with the wakeboard boat so they built the winch.

I have a thick head i guess. Tou said a warn winch would work ok, fine they real in so slow how would you plane out? How fast of a retreive do you need. Must be a mid west thing. Got any pictures. I'm serious i'm thinking real hard and trying to visualize. Want to buy a winch X?

this sounds BA!!!

is what u talking about the thing they have wakeboarders being pulled on like in the move "Never Back Down"???

i have seen a vid somewere where they had one set up on an indoor pool with a rail set up in the middle doing it on wakeskates. looked pretty sweet.

bOY YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A WINCH THAT WAS PRETTY HIGH SPEED.

You forget how light I am!!! I'll just have to video it for ya next summer.

Ya a 350 Chev in a sleek hull would be more fun...but I'd still be part way in the same boat. Only difference being I'd have the boat, but need people to drive. Not sure if that's a job the wife would want...plus that whole 300 bucks(maybe) vs 10-40K.

Someday though a nice ski boat will be on my dock.
