Who are you kidding? I'm a vw fan, had several. The v10 is a great motor but that chassis has always been too small to tow anything serious.

1000 lbs of weight or pulling in reverse that Tourag would get killed.

Really? Just goes to show what you don't know! Even if the Duratrash and the Tourag had the same motor, I suspect the outcome would be much the same? Power to weight ratio man! Power to weight ratio!

That is funny that you mention the "chassis too small". When my nephew got stationed from the east coast to the west coast. He bought himself a 26' car trailer to move himself. Loaded his C-J and belongings and hit the road! I asked him what kind of equalizer hitch he got? He said he didn't, he hooked up and pumped up the suspension, handled like a champ! So I asked what it weighed? He says 19,000lbs! Kind of surprised him too? And he still pulled down 10 mpg!
Never tell a farm boy what can't be done!

I've drove one several times. They have power but not enough wheelbase to feel real safe with a lot of load.

Smart stuff! The Tourag weighs about 6000lbs. About the same as a half ton pick-up!
Wheelbase is not much different than a blazer or a bronco or about 20 others in that category?
FYI- the V-10 diesel Tourag was only marketed in the states around 05 and 06!

So what are you saying? Besides exactly what I already said? Wheelbase is too short to be that stable and the vehicle doesn't weigh enough.

Why do you think a long bed tows so much better than a half ton short bed?

You could get the V10 in the US until 2008, California emissions were the end of the V10 in North America.

Per the OP. It is a PULL OFF NOT A TOW OFF!
Is the shorter wheel base ideal? No, but it is and can be done. Preferably with a stabilizer hitch! I would much rather have the air bagged Tourag over anything leaf or coil sprung in the same situation!
Did you miss the part about the Tourag weighing as much as a half ton?
If you are a VDub guy, then why do you seem to be getting but hurt over a Duratrash getting spanked?
