We are planning a trip from Idaho to ride the area around Mt.Bachor. Our sleds are registered and insured here in Idaho. Do we need to get visitor registration? Also, do we need the snowmobile safety certificate? We have Idaho drivers licenses as is required here.

We will be staying in Sunriver and could also use some suggestions for where to ride. Groomed trail riding with some off trail playing is our typical style of riding.

Mt Bachelor Is probably the best place to ride from Sunriver. The snow is great right now and should get better every day. Dutchman Sno-park is best if you can get there early enough to park, the ride to Elk lake from there is a nice groomed section of closed highway. If Dutchman is closed Kapka sno-park always has space and isn't too bad of a trail ride to get up there. You can download a good map of the whole area here http://mooncountry.us/systems/file_download.ashx?pg=471&ver=4 . You will need a sno-park permit, I think an Idaho one works. Dont need any kind of safety certificate if you have a drivers license. As for the out of state permit I think you do need one.




Snowmobile Trip Permit for Out-of-State Residents

Allows the use of a snowmobile in Oregon when the owner is a resident of another state and the snowmobile is not registered.

Snowmobile permits are valid for up to 60 days.

To apply, you must provide:

• Your name and address;
• The year, make, and vehicle identification number or product identification number of your snowmobile;
• The state you live in;
• Amount of time you want the permit for, up to 60 consecutive days (can be issued in advance); and
• The $7 trip permit fee.

You can buy a snowmobile trip permit at:

Riding in the Mt. Bachelor area...

It's worth mentioning there is a 40 foot maximum length on trucks/trailers parked at the Dutchman parking area across from Mt. Bachelor. It's my understanding, the price of the ticket is based on the footage of your vehicle and gets spendy... The Kapka parking area at the top of the road from Sunriver to Mt. Bachelor has lots more room to park long vehicles without any length restrictions.

You can use an Idaho Snow Park permit legally in Oregon if you have one. If needed, you can buy the Sno-Park permits at the store next to the Basecamp Grill at 17355 Spring River Rd, Sunriver, OR 97707. Ask about the multi-day parking pass for the best value. The ticket for not having a Sno-Park pass is more than the pass itself.

While in the area, you might also head towards LaPine, OR to check out the riding at Paulina Lake. You will find parking at the Ten-Mile Sno-Park on Paulina-East Lake Rd, La Pine, OR 97739. It's a smaller riding area but also typically has a fewer people. The Lodgepole Dodgers club out of LaPine, OR maintains the area and does a great job. http://www.lapinedodgerssnow.org/

When are you planning to come? Hopefully soon because it is beautiful up there right now. I rode this morning and we found some seriously deep pockets. Shaking your goggles clear kind of pockets.

The others have you pretty well covered. The groomers are going pretty regularly now, thanks Moon Country Snowbusters, and kapka to elk is usually in really good shape. 45-5 was really nice today.

More snow this week! Could get 4'!
