video camera; which format etc?

Like the title says. What is everyone having luck with for taking out in the mountains.

I dont even know what format to get, sd, hard drive, mini dvd? What are the advantages? Im probably going to be in the $200-$400 range. What cameras are you guys using?

MiniDV.

Optical drives ... not a big fan of those for mobile environments, especially for writing.

Hard drives fail far too often, not to mention they don't like to be knocked around much.

MiniDV will get you outstanding quality, price is right, tapes are cheap enough. Most MiniDV cams have a line in if you want a helmet cam.
