Vibration??

He guys,

I just finished installing my engine and got to ride her for the first time in almost 3 months. Now im not sure if im dreaming it or not but Im almost certain that the vibration in her have gone way up. I changed out the front mounts to compfusions and replce both rear mounts with new. I swear it feels to me that this thing now vibrates something terrible now. I also installed a SLP push arm ( torque arm is on back a order). Any ideas on where to look??

Not surprizing at all, the Compfusion mounts, and SLP arm are not made to increase comfort... they are made to hold your engine in place. Mine vibes worse than stock too. I don't have the slp arm in mine though... maybe that could be a source of more vibes?

when the motor in turned off, make sure the slp push arm is not touching the recoil housing. it should be clearenced away from the re-coil .0010"

Cool Dan, as long as isnt just me. The only thing I have been on since I pulled the motor was a little 380 Rev that belongs to my kids. Im was hoping it was just in my head. After having the 9 layed up most of the winter I think im just over sensitive to everything. Man its nice to be back on a real machine.... Just hope the good Lord sprinkles a few feet of snow one last time so I can really test her out. The new helix and spring feels super cant wait to get some riding in.:face-icon-small-win

What I can not comment on is the SLP push arm... have never used it, or the torque arm (on Colin's recommendations). What did you set your factory torque stopper at? Polaris says .010 - .030" for a used stopper. I usually go for the larger end of that scale after seeing some demolished left side braces in here.

Dan,

Colin suggest not to use the SLP torque and push arm?? If so I wasnt aware of this. As for the stock push arm it is set right in that window .010 - .030 just not sure what.

Paul

Keep in mind with the SLP stuff that you are bolting those items directly to the bulkhead (engine torque arm for sure - not positive on the pusharm but I assume so). With that you are transferring alot of the engine vibration right to the bulkhead. I installed the engine torque arm and noticed a significant increase in vibration down in the footwells.

Colin told me that he suggests trying his mounts without the slp stuff, although he knows some guys still use it.
The slp stuff is made to compensate for the crappy original mounts which become unnecessary after upgrading to Colin's mounts. (in my humble opinion)

finally got mine out and the vibes on the boardsare more at low speeds now. I've got the compfusions and i removed the SLP arms on Colin's suggestion.

I also got to ride a TM3 yesterday and I have to tell you that it is unreal. There are zero vibrations. A dragon 700 vibrates way more than the TM3.

Stiffer mounts transfer more energy ( vibration) to the chasis.Simple physics. Do you have the stock crossmmember? If so it will break soon .Its the next thing in line when adding compfusion mounts. Franz sells a billet CM that should be much better. I personally am not a fan of stiffer mounts on the 900. the crank is the real problem untill thats fixed its good money after bad IMO

Ballance your primary. Made a world of dif on mine! Go Dan!!!

Had mine balanced on $300k balancing machine and it made a world of difference. But with the Compfusion mounts I am feeling it more. It was a couple years ago that it was balanced and it may have gone out. I Just picked up another 900 and it doesn't vibrate nearly as much so I am thinking about swapping the clutches to see if it makes any difference on mine or not, could be my clutch or my crank starting to go out that is causing it. Either way it will have a TM1 or TM3 in it for next season, I just need to talk to IndyDan and make a decision which one.
