Vholdr Mounting question

just got my Contour HD camera today. It has both a mount for a goggle strap and one to glue on to the side or top of a helmet. Wondering what works the best as the fixed flat mount seems more solid. I used to run my vio cam3 on top of my helmet but this unit is a little bigger as it is self contained. Had to turn it down to 720 to run on my computer but hoping to get some vid in a few days. Merry Christmas to all.

sly i found the goggle strap to work fine just might have to make sure the strap is not loose. since i have q straps i have mine on the solid mount. unfortunately if i either mount it above or below the strap the helmet itself is in the shot compared to where the goggle mounts its perfect positioning.

with the solid mount velcro only holds the cam in place i prefer the goggle mount as it is damn near impossible to lose your cam or have it fall off.

Cheers

Just seemed like it would vibrate a little more on the goggle strap. I also got 2 fixed mounts so I can use it or my son. After looking at the positioning it appears that the mount could go above the goggle strap and the camera upside down with the lens rotated, this seems to put the lens in the same position as on the goggle strap which might clear the helmet better. I will try both methods and see. Looking forward to getting some good footage with this unit, packing my old tape camcorder hooked to the helmet cam and a power pack was a pita. I think i could have saved a few bucks with a 720 as I can't seem to get the 1080 to play on my computer.

the 1080 would take a fair amount of memory to play. i have 720 and it can almost slow down my comp. i don;t think the lens will turn more than 90 degrees in either direction? thus u can;t mount camera upside down?

I used the fixed mount, only place I could put it was below the goggle strap. So far works fine. Most Windows boxes won't play the HD quicktime files well unless you get a different player, OR convert to mp4/mpg. The .MOV files are not smooth on my system, its a quad core with plenty of power, the software is the issue.

the quicktime player plays the 1080 very well on my laptop. I had my camera out the other day very happy with the video/sound quality, I used the goggle strap mount with quick straps and it worked perfect.

i ran the vholdr for a last year work good, up graded to the HD this year, and new helmet, vholdr flat surface mount work ok has some play in the mount, im still waiting on the new mounts advertised on vholdr, i think they are called extreme, its a billit alu. piece that used 3m fasteners to hold to the helmet, i just bought a new carbon fiber helmet and didnt want to put an old mount on there and then try and get it off, mount looks bullet proof, but i do like the teather on the origonal mount just incase something let go but if the whole mount comes off, by by camera anyone look at this mount???

Mount on top of your helmet using a thick epoxy based glue, Keep the epoxy thick and let set up in a cool area. 9 days of riding with no issues so far. And a couple of branches swatted pretty good!

I downloaded KM Player from the internet, and it can play the HD files on my several year old laptop nice and smooth.

thanks for the KM tip! couldn't even watch the footage off the new Contour HD cam without it. :beer;

used the goggle strap mount and it was perfect. Even hit a tree hard enough to spin the cam straight up in the holder but it did not come off.

on a side note....seems the microphone turned off on both of my first and only tries. It was on for about 30 seconds then it went silent. Is this a default I need to change? Thanks for any help!
