vforce3 reed problems

Was talking to dealer new years eve and he said they had two sleds come in with dead mag holes 30psi compression. Both sleds had about 600 miles on them. He had only looked at one and said v force reeds were chiped and broke. Not sure why other one lost hole yet.

I pulled mine off today and found that both sets were chiped on the very corners of the reeds, at 370 miles. Not bad but about 1/16 of inch was broke off the one side. If anymore chiped off it would be into opening.

Was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with the v force 3 reeds?

it is common problem..it is because of no fuel coming in thru the intake tract to keep them cool..basically they overheat and disinagrate...

So I was told to get rid of them too when my update was done, but couldn't find my stockers. What makes the stockers any better though?? And did you say (or imply) that the broken pieces somehow messed up the sleds in question?

Stockers are a plastic petal, v-force are fiber. I would summise that the reason they are chipping at the tip is bacause there is no small film of oil/fuel for them to land on at the tip, they are snapping closed on a clean plastic body at extremely high speeds.

My VF3's were chipped on the tips so I went to Carbon Tech reeds at the recommendation of Carl's. These use the stock reed cages; Part Number CT276MT or Western Power Sports PN is 59-8276. From one season to the next it's hard to say if there is any difference-none noted. As far as longevity, they will last longer than VF3's but need a year to compare.
Edit: The VF's are carbon fibre, very light, thin and probably the ultimate reed-but they don't have anything durable at this point and it's a SOB to change them. Not the kind of mid season maintenance anyone needs.

I plan on putting boyseen reeds in my 800 one of these days. Im just convinced they are a better built product.

So they are made of a different material as far as the reed pedals are concerned?

Will the chipped pieces hurt the engine in any way?

It's not likely but remotely possible. The symptoms will be evident when bottom end gets sluggish. From there the more reed tip you lose the leaner the sled may run so a lean seize could happen? Must be what his (crider) dealer is thinking.

You can decide for your self. But after talking to v-force and to boyesen, i have come to the conclusion that they make a better product.

I had v-force reeds in my 900 RMK and i had chipping after 1500 miles. So i swapped them with stock and i had some fairly serious wear after about 800 miles.

Wear in the stockers after 800 miles?

moto tassinari v- force

I also had some chipping after 400 miles. Called Moto Tasinari and talked to a tech. They said send um in and we will fix ya up. Sent them in and had new pedals within 10 days for 0 $. They stand behind there product better than any other reed manufacturer, bottom line. Had problems with boyeson rage cages and they were happy to sell me new pieces at full retail, not impressed.
PS The cfi motor puts the reeds under alot of pressure both neg. and pos. due to the case reed induction and the reed tips being so close to the action so to say. Moto Tassinari has a new longer lasting fiber reed petal for this year and I am sure they will resolve the problem because they are the best in business. Just look at major race teams running 2 strokes, they all use v-force.

I agree 100% and VF reeds are all I've ever run until this year. But........I'm not going to rebuild them mid season. MotoTas is replacing my reeds free, just have the issue of down time (week or two no riding) and labor hassle to remove and replace them-that won't work for me. If they would last a season I'd feel differently.

The dealer was not sure that this was the reason the sleds went down. The one on the mag side that I looked at was really bad bout half of one pedal was gone. Was suppriesed that the guy did not notice any problems, He just wanted me to check mine and see what they looked like. He gave me set of stock ones.

I have run v force in many other sleds and not had a problem will probably call them and see if they do have updated ones if can get them repaird. I do like the way they ran guess will find out how stock ones run this week:beer;:)
