Very Serious Question...

I know fouled plug is normally a place for jokes and stuff but, this is a very serious question.. at least in my eyes...

and, i may have asked this before but, again, its to the point of very serious...

ok,
here it is:

i NEED to go back out to jellystone this year.. i just got back about 3 weeks ago from there but, as you may know, the snow has become epic.. i get 2 weeks of vacation a year according to policy. the thing is, although i am alloted 2 weeks doesnt mean ill get what i ask for....

so, do i ask for certain dates off by telling them im going on a vacation and hope they say ok..

or, tell them i have family issues and they wont have much choice but to say ok....

remember, if i ask for vacation days and they say no, i wont have a 2nd chance..

ask for the days, take the days, if they say no go anyway, and have fun, deal with it when you get back

don't lie to them, it wil make you look like a wuss

stand up and be a man, they said 2 weeks off, you are entitled

First of all I wouldn't go to jellystone, I'd go to cooke city, better snow and way cheaper to stay.
Second of all, I would consider it a family emergency with the amount of snow in the west.
Have Fun!!!

Tell them you have a friend with mental health issues and that you need to provide support to help him through his crisis. No brag, just fact!

How busy are you this time of year??? In construction we have to take the work when it's there. If not they just find another contractor to do the job.

Also how long have been working there and how much time have you taken in the past???

Ask for the time off. The work will be there when you get back. If your boss can't understand you want time off, than he's not much of a boss. Plus, its none of his business where or why you need the time off.

Ask and if they say no, then don't go. This guy I worked with had to have knee surgery while he was on "funeral leave". He was even less popular after that....

it is our busier time but, there is friggin 7 other guys here that do my same job.. thing about the boss is, you ask for the time and he gives you thios guilt trip like the place wont make it with out you.. then, he takes off at the drop of a hat..

ive been here 2.5 years. taken only my alotted vacation time, never call in sick.. never late.. etc... etc.. i just dont want to give him the chance to say no..

Why is it any of his business what you are taking time off for? He doesn't need to know, nor should it affect his decision anyway.

When you agree to work at a place and time off is part of that you are entitled to it. Now if the company is busy and you are asked to forgo your time off, then you have a choice. If they don't like it that's when you decide how important that job is.

Life is too short, I've worked for myself and when I got my current job, I let them know that I will perform, but I'm taking my time, it helps me perform better, if they don't like it, I've had other jobs and I'm good at what I do so it won't be hard to compete with them or relocate so the choice becomes theirs. I'm willing to lay it on the line to enjoy life more than work...you have to decide where the line is.

Boss?

What does your Boss call himself? A boss is a person in charge.. If you are accurate on showing up on time and not abusing the system, he should figure out how to survive without you. A good boss works with their employee to make sure they are satisfied. If you are not content you will end up looking somewhere else. Life to short, GO..

I'd ask for the time off. I also have a boss who gives me the ol' guilt trip, tells me how busy she was & how awful it was while I was gone.. But I get over it.:beer;:D

Luckily, I get 6 weeks of vacation/sick time a year.

Jess I feel your pain!!! just got back from saratoga and encampment over the hood every days 3 feet of fresh!!! heading out again last week of feb and they arent happy about it at all! I told them dealerships are a dime a dozen and i dont take time off in the summer how would they like to approach this??? they were sooooo soooooo pissed when they basicly figured out i would find another job before i would give up that second trip!

PS I am one car away from leading the board!!! that was after 9 days off the lot.

Epic does not go far enough.....

Hope the road will stay open long enough to get in to the cabin tonight. 15" last night and another 2' projected for sunday!:D:D:D:D:D

Do what you can to get here, but the snow isn't going anywhere soon.

Just tell them you'll see them when you get back .....I am heading out again next thurs and again in March if not before. Of course I am the boss..but if one of my guys needs time off for whatever reason , I will do what I can to see that he gets it.....any good employer should within reason.
