Interesting Statistics

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law,
St. Paul, Minnesota, points out facts of 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Democrats: 19
Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by:
Democrats: 580,000
Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Democrats: 127 million
Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds:

"In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won by Republicans was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country."

Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare.

Professor Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" ..

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.
Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Won't matter much anyway.
Palosi plans to put forward a bill to do away with the electoral colege and go straight with popular vote.

If she succeeds the dems will hold power for ever.
NewYork will be able to tell just about any state in the center of the country what to do since there are more people in that city than a lot of states.

you say you don't like the electoral college?.....take a good course in developement of government, the founding fathers understood, and so do the socialists who are trying to break it down......do you understand the tyranny of the majority, yet?.....when those who have absolutely no experience with guns, hunting, motorsports, pickup trucks and all the other stuff we like to do can dictate our way of life, you may start to understand some of the safeguards built into the constitution.....so please, don't regurgitate the prattle of the college professors, city socialists, and media talking heads without some serious research as to why the electoral college exists.....it's to protect you.........

when did we get a black president? I need to read the paper more often

The founding fathers implemented the electoral college because the average citizen at that time did not know much about the candidates that were running for the presidency. In the information age that we live in now the candidate's beliefs, experience, etc. are easily available. The only reason I do not like the electoral college is because it does not always reflect the vote of the people. If it's supposed to protect us from people that don't know about guns, hunting, motorsports, pickup trucks, etc. it sure is doing a piss poor job as the people that want to take this stuff away have made their way into office before and will continue to do so. Who's to say the people that hold those electoral votes are voting for the views of the people or what's "right". Most college professors are liberal hippies so I could give a **** less what they think.

If people would've put somebody else besides McCain up for election the Republican's might have won. Anyone who thought McCain had a chance in hell of winning the 08 election against Obama is kidding themselves.

Now there's a statement......

They would have needed to put a Hispanic midget up against O to win. That election was all about writing a new chapter in History books.

You make no sense.......

The founding fathers were looking for a representative government, not a mob mentality. Pelosi is looking for a mob style government.

The electoral college has worked for 200+ years now.

If a popular vote was the norm, only the opinions of either coast would really count. Look at where the population is.

You make no sense.......

I make no sense? It is documented history that the Electoral College was implemented because the common citizen at that time did not know much about the candidates.

The electoral college has worked for 200+ years now.

It still undermines the saying that "every vote counts."

All I said is I don't like the Electoral College(because it undermines the popular vote). Nowhere did I say we should get rid of it.

I can assure you I understand how government works, I know far more about government than most people.

Shortstop, I'm not trying to start a pissing match but if you were taught that about the electoral college, you were lied to, and that teacher or prof needs an arse beating badly for starters. Here is an article about the electoral college and it's founding. Read more about the founders and tyranny of the majority, they were some smart guys.

I've never been a big fan of the voting process here to start nor do I think that the majority of the population or any where near majority know or pay attention to what a canidate belives or stands to represent. We watched a documentary about people being asked a # of ? about the last election and a lot thought Palin was Nobamas running mate and this was filmed in times square.I was amazed by how many ignorant people were interviewed that claimed to be registered voters.
