so who here is from or around vernal? i may be moving to vernal sometime soon....im just waiting on a call to see if i got a job or not with Halliburton. anyway hows the hunting, fishing, dirt biking, people and most of all...snowmobiling? if ya know a little about it fill me in. i've never been to utah so i dont know squat about the place...i need the down low lol

Vernal (Uinta Basin) has everything you listed. Good to great goose and duck hunting, Predator hunting can be good. You would be within 1 hour of Flaming George and the Green River (Blue ribon trout stream). The only thing that sucks about it out there is the dreaded inversion they suffer every winter, but since you are a sledder, you can get above the inversion and into the warm sun. Good luck with the job.

I grew up in Vernal! Some of the best hunting and fishing in the state. You can find good dirt biking too. The sledding is decent, but better if you travel about and hour to an hour and thirty minutes to Strawberry. You can get to the Uintas from Tabiona though too, with would be closer.

im not sure yet...still waiting on a call. my uncle is friends with the guy who runs with the bulk plant and he keeps tellin him they are going to call me but they keep having safety meetings and dont have time i guess.....so i hear. hopfuly i get it. i need a big break for once

What are you going to be doing for them? Halliburton was who originally brought me to Vernal.

I never did cement work when I was there ... I know a few of their cement engineers, but I never worked in that PSL.

i guess they hired 5 people last week and a few more...my uncle said things are picking up down there....but he is just a private pilot for some rich gas/oil guy there lol.

Basically what happened is things were still going very strong in 2007, 2008 everything crashed. All the big service companies ... Halliburton, Schlumberger, BJ, Weatherford .... had to lay off hundreds of people. Halliburton, last count I heard, had to lay of ~150 people and there were only ~320 people that worked in the camp as of 2007.

Recently in the last 6 months however, things have picked up slightly. It isn't ever going to be what it was in 2007 again, but it's becoming a little better.

With that said, what Halliburton has been doing is trying to hire back the people they had on the payroll who they laid off originally .... They kept their most senior and best people on the payroll, basically got rid of the rest .... then as things pick up and they need more hands, try to hire back guys that had already worked for them ....

Which, as you can bet, makes that a lot tougher for newcommers to get hired on with them unless they have a connection ....
