vents

Why is it that with all the forward thinking that Polaris put into the Pro Ride development, that we still need to buy vent kits?

I'm not asking "do we need vent kits" --what snowmobile has too low an under hood temperature??? --granted we need to keep our clutches dry

This is not a rant either "I'm spending 23k on two sleds why do I need to buy a vent kit"--- it is merely a question?

Yes, I plan on buying vent kits. Just seems like vents would be one of the easiest things for an OEM to design and manufacture. Always wondered why they don't. Polaris is already doing a lot of things on this chassis that we used to do through the Aftermarket--coil over skid, WE shocks, super lightweight tunnel, aggressive snow clearouts on boards, etc. Why not the vents?

Again, not a rant or a question of whether they are needed....just thinking out loud.

If I were a betting man I would say that it is for noise regulation. They have to meet certian critera as an OEM to be able to release to the public and a vented sled with no foam would not cut it!

Long story short, because of the tree huggers we get to remove all the crap and add some more crap!:face-icon-small-ton

Bingo! when I was in school I was on a SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge Team... We had to stuff so much foam and crap under the hood just to meet the dB requirements for future regulations... Soooo we have to buy vents

That makes sense based on the current EPA noise restriction.

Wish they offered a "closed course competition only" hood in the accessory catalog....

Folks , u and Poo put 110,000 miles on bone stock sleds in a lot of places and every sled had no vents and no problems w/ heat or belt issues, wait to buy vents to see if they are even needed, unless of course u turbo it then vent the crap out of it just for intake

^^^^^^^I understand the wait and see statement above----BUT

Riding deep Sierra cement puts a load on a belt that is hard to reproduce anywhere. I understand that Polaris tests their equipment but the test conditions in the midwest or mountain segment test area in dry fluff are substantially different than 3 or 4 feet of high moisture content powder that we typically get here in Tahoe.

My previous statement stands that I can't foresee having too low underhood temps and the trick is keeping the belt and clutches dry while still allowing good ventilation

One reason - noise level compliance.

Ask any OEM engineer, save the noise reduction engineer, and they'll tell you they'd love to vent the underhood temps more. Can't. It's to the point that the track and rotating mass is challenging engine noise for db output.

Vents are cheap and can be tailored to the way you ride.

Mo-Flow Pro RMK Vents

Here are a few pics of our vents we have available for the Pro Rmk. We just finished them up and they are now available. It will be a week or two before we get them on our website.

I believe that SLP has some. They have them for the 2010 Rush...I think they're the same panels as the Pro, but not sure.

The vents look good. I like the black and the clean lines. What are you using for the screen material or what can you say about it? I've seen some that end up letting in snow or even warping from engine heat. Wanting to avoid both those problems.

MO-FLOW VENTS

I was riding with MO-FLOW vents on my AC M last season and they held up great, awesome vents.
Just my 2cents

I was looking in the Polaris accessory catalog today. They have some vents in there for the Pro.

Thanks Arcteryx,

Our vents come with a woven mesh that is coated to withstand the elements. We also add a Layer of Frogzskins Prefilter to all our clutch side vents. This prevents any snow or moisture from getting on your clutches. You can add a layer of Prefilter to any vent we offer. Sometimes cold weather can make the mesh appear warped due to the expansion and contraction of hot and cold tempratures. It takes a good impact to dent the mesh material. But it can happen, and we will repair it for next to nothing.

Here are some sneak-peak pics I got from paul at Fire N Ice:camera::face-icon-small-sho

I'd like to keep seeing what others are out there too!
