VANOC wants to take over Brandywine Parking lot for THREE MONTHS

heard from someone at brohm you couldn't park there and saw a sign on the weekend that said no snowmobiles on groomed trails there. (tricouni i mean)

Might just be Powder Mtn snowcats trying to keep sledders out of their tenure. Closures are only legal if Forestry has issued a section 58 and I haven't seen one.

so does anyone know if brandywine is closed at this time? planning on making a trip there for saturday..

What a joke, you would think we are in good old U.S. of A. closing areas and the like. It will pay in the long run to fight this to the end, because once the tree huggers see that they can close it down they will try.

Was at the meeting today. Lots of Vanoc people a few MoTSA folk and lots of sledders and a few operators. Basically Brandywine and Sproat will be closed from early Jan to early April. Firm dates will be set later but basically it is closed for the whole sledding season. Vanoc tried to wiggle out that they are responsible that the Rutherford and Chance are at full capacity with their parking. I pointed out to them that Brandywine and Callaghan accounted for about 40% of the parking spots in the corridor and you can’t just take that away without having a major effect on the other areas. As I said above it will be MoTSA that will be doing any mitigation if any re increased parking at Brohm, Chance, Rutherford, Miller and Hurley. The public rec guy is on holidays for 3 weeks so no point filling up his inbox. My experience with the gov boys is that they are extremely slow at getting things done. There is no point in trying to do anything about Brandywine, that is a done deal, our focus should be in trying to get more and better parking and any trail improvements that might be needed. The person we should be contacting is the minister of MoTSA Bill Bennett. We need money and permits in place when the snow melts so we can get done what is needed for next season. That only going to happen with pressure from the top.

in the good old U.S. of A. once they close it for any reason your not going to get it back!!!

This is getting out of hand! Where is it going to end? I lost my favorite riding area (Callaghan) and now my next favorite (Sproatt)! I hear Tricooni could be next! Brohm is still under review for development! You know that once these areas close.....it is going to be very difficult to ever get them to open them to sledding again after all the cross country skiers take the place over. If they close all these areas....maybe we should try to get access to Garibaldi! Yeah right!:mad::mad:

Sounds like sledding after 2010 is going to be a thing of the past on the Sea to Sky Corridor.

Thanks for attending the meeting today Ray and keeping us informed.

What is VANOC going to do for us?

Since last year, it has been TAKE, TAKE, TAKE...
Take away Callaghan.
Take away Sproatt.
Take away Brandywine.
Their not going to do anything for us, it is only going to be TO US...
I should have guessed last year when they made a larger parking lot available for Powder Mountain after closing Callaghan, that they were going to some BS move like this.... 3 MONTHS...

I am so fawking sick of this.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

This is just unreal... this whole olympics show is such a crock of sh*t! I too am very worried that with the new cross country ski complex they have put in there that we may be forced out for good. I commend those of you that have been attending the meetings and sticking up for our sport. However as we've seen in the past, these 'public meeting's' are usually just for show as the gov't already knows exactly what they are going to do... nothing but a formality unfortunately.

guys, don't get your panties in a bunch!

Yes Callaghan was "taken" from us, ****ty deal and I still don't like it. But don't start crying wolf.

Tricouni isn't closed and won't be. The only reason that will ever be in jeopardy is if morons keep on blocking the road and the cat skiing operation can't get their vans in and out. The tenure they have is not exclusive and only permits them to operate commercially in the area. The extra parking there isn't for sledders, haven't seen it plowed once since it was put there, it's for the summer for people that are going to the lake just off the road.

Brandywine and Sproatt again are not being "taken". Just temporarily closed, not really that unreasonable considering there are the Olympics there and all.

Plus do you really even want to bother coming to the area during those 3 months? Everything's going to be a ****-show, crowded, over authoritative security, and hoopla everywhere. Take next winter to go explore other areas you've been meaning to.
