Vaned cranks.....

Is anyone running a "vaned" crank in their M-series?? I am interested in hearing the performance benefits people are feeling in the M-8 or M1000's.

Anyone?

Who is doing the cranks? If it is the guy in Montana, stay away it does not work.

My dad did it to his 09 summitx 800 and another guy did it on his 09 dragon 800. It did nothing for performance. The only thing it did was mess up there clutching. Once they got that figured out again they don't climb any higher, go any faster in a drag race, get any better fuel milage. The vained crank is a complete waste of time and money. You might and I mean might get .5%gain, but from what we found it does not help anything.

i did it to mine, an 06 m7, and i am really happy with it. made a huge difference in bottom and mid range, not as much on top but prolly the best power mod ive done for the money. im hoping to get it on the dyno this fall to get some numbers...

I'm not disagreeing with you specifically, but it seems like that would be the exact opposite. It seems like the effect would be magnified as the motor increases RPM?

Can someone explain how this theoretically works, I remember reading something on it years ago, but can't remember the premise behind any power gain.

I would think the obvious response would be "power" but,..............this is the reason for my post.......

1. - I want to know if that is a realistic expectation

2. - Is the power low range, mid or high

3. - Reliability issues etc..

4. - Who is the guru on doing this? Where located, cost, etc ?

It is a fact (or myth) finding mission.

2x on the snake oil.
it might help attomization at lower rpm but its been around a long time and know one seems to think it works so Im with the masses on this. just say NO !
In therory its to super charge the intake charge = increase hp. probably just a bunch of wind F_ing up the flow at high rpm. IMO

Gotta love these forums! A guy tries to get insight on mods and most guys say it's not worth it and is snake-oil and than you have one guy that pops up and says it's awesome and the best mod he has done. Don't know about you guys, but half the time I just shake my head with all the talk and am more confused when it is all said and done.........100 guys, 100 opinions usually on these forums.................Kinda funny!

I have a friend from the eastern US that races snocross, their race team tried the vaned cranks from parish (?) racing on their ski doo engines and said all it did was make their engines hard to tune for race conditions, and no noticeable gains on the their sea level dyno. not firsthand experience, but I trust them to give me the straight goods. it is the internet, take it for what it's worth....

stock my sled was 8 lengths behind a same turbo sled in 660 ft...18 lengths behind in 1000 ft...vaned my crank and i beat the same turbo by 5 lengths in 660ft and 12 lengths in 1000 ft...i now went from average 60 miles to a tank of fuel to 170 miles to a tank..i still don;t know if the improvement is due to the vaned crank or just the new gaskets i put in when it went back together..???...i vaned the crank myself with an heavy duty electric engraver so my vanes are at least one thousands an in in depth..next time i will go a bit deeper...i also vaned the mixer paddles in the drum on my electric cement mixer and that mixer worked hard in a day to mix cement for a small job...now i hire it out to build bridges ...schools...rebuild Haiti...Afganistan.....so in closing i think the vaning idea works...??
