Vancouver Island

I know there are riding spots there, but how many? I would think that they get a pretty good dumping of snow all season. Reason I'm asking is I have the opportunity to leave my sleds in Comox and just fly out from Fort Mcmurray to go riding. The cost to drive to Revy in fuel is getting absurd, 13hrs one way with good hiway conditions. So someone has to have the 411 on these areas, help me decide. thanks

The guys that I used to work with from Van Isle used to ride Mnt Washington and theres another area nearby for some trail riding. I cant remember the name:confused:
There is also some riding up in the Woss area (Port McNeil )
Mnt Arrowsmith in port Albernie has some riding also.

I live on the island,
Mt. Arrowsmith
Mt. Washington
Mt. Brenton
Bacon Lake
Plus a few other secret spots

All pretty decent mountain riding, lots of snow, big hills, great boondocking!!
Their is a Few snowmobile clubs on the island as well, the main one being Mid-island Snoblazers. Check out there website, few hundred members.:beer;
PM me if you ever come out this way.

I used to live in Nanaimo, still make it back for some riding for a couple weeks a year... your not going to get the deep, fluffy powder, but still lots of snow and some decent riding. Definatly hook up with the MISB club, there is a north island one too i believe, they will all point you in the right direction. cheers

There's no snow on Vancouver Island and that's not an A\C on the hook!
Actually there is some good riding on the Island. Only problem is the freezing level normally stays above 2000 ft. That means the areas to ride are quite small because we can't valley hop. If you are used to places like Revy and Pemberton you will find it quite restricting. You can't beat it for an awesome day ride and meeting some great guys. If your sled is in Comox you are 1\2 and hour from Washington and Adrian. Pretty hard to beat. If you are into it they also golf all year round here.

Pics are from Arrowsmith, Washington, and Adrian. Some of those nasty Pacific storms we get on the Island can result in 3 to 4 ft. of powder in one night if the temps are right. You need to be BCSF member to ride Adrian as there is a security gate and they check for a current card.

Island

Thanks for the reply's guy's, how long of a season is it there? Any more pics? if the areas are smaller just how small? compared to say Valemount.

Anytime you're up for a ride Mtn.Crazy let me know. My place is in Nanoose, so I'm on the way to everywhere except Holyoak.
Our season usually starts about mid December, sometimes earlier, sometimes later but I usually don't go until around Christmas. Have ridden May 24th weekend but way to warm for me. Usually call it quits middle of April.
Have only ridden Valemount once because I usually meet friends from PG in McBride. The Island has nothing the size of Allan Creek for sure. Not sure on the size of the other areas across the highway. Any riding area on the Island can be completely covered in a day easily. There is not much alpine area to ride because 6 of the highest mountains on the Island are in the greenie zone known as Strathcona Park. There are no groomed trails. To give you an idea, I usually go off the Island 5 to 10 times a season. If you are looking for the long, deep, steep stuff this isn't the place. If you're looking for a place with half decent riding close by and good people it's hard to beat.
Gotta remember, Vancouver Island is the Hawaii of Canada. The only time we wear winter jackets is when we're riding or skiing. It's even hard to buy a good pair of winter socks here! :D:D
ANYONE! How do you download pics as thumbnails?

Good to hear we have some threads going this year from the island! Got my sleds in victoria and deffinatly going to be looking for some riding partners this winter! How's it been looking up there?

I live in Comox and ride both Mt. Adrian and Mt. Washington, We have great riding here good cabins and great people. There can be lots of powder and also have the mild temps, that makes it nice to ride with lighter clothes.
If you look hard enough there's some great hillclimbs and lots of great boondocking. Give us a call when there's more snow I'll show you guys some spots. Check out Mt Washington's site for the latest conditions, there's snow up there now not much but a start.www.mountwashington.ca
