Looks like Valdez is going to be getting pounded the next 10 hours... anyone going through the pass anytime soon!?

drove back yesterday palmer to valdez 2" 4" most of the way started snowing this am in valdez 10" to 12" on ground and still snowing there saying another 12" possible

hmm... wonder if it is rideable after this storm.. ???
Came thru Thompson Pass at 10pm. Stopped at Worthington there's a good 18" of freshies there (up to my knees) and was still coming down. friggin blizzard most of the way, 2 to 3" at Eureka, but was snowing hard.

...blizzard warning in effect from 9 pm this evening to 9 am akst
saturday...
the national weather service in anchorage has issued a blizzard
warning...which is in effect from 9 pm this evening to 9 am akst
saturday. The blizzard watch is no longer in effect.
A powerful low pressure system is expected to move into the
northern gulf of alaska tonight. North to northeast winds will
increase 30 to 60 mph throughout the area tonight with gusts to
80 mph in thompson pass. Strong winds combined with 4 to 8 inches
of snow will produce blizzard conditions with visibilities to a
quarter mile or less at times. Conditions will slowly improve
saturday as the winds diminish.

Anyone down for a sunday or monday thompsons pass mission? I'm not committing until i get a better snow report late sat or sun, but anyone interested?

No telling until the storm passes... thats why i'm not committing yet, just like my girlfriend...
about 18" on the ground and snowing right now wind is starting to blow in valdez

According to www.thompsonpass.com they have plenty of snow. From 4500-7000' they have a 26" base with 70" total. Never rode there so I don't know what elevation you start at!
I've never ridden TP so I can't help you there. But I do know that High Winds + 35 inches of new snow = High Avalanche danger. So be careful out there. That being said, I'm sure there's some great early season riding after a storm like that, just have to pick your spots. Be sure to take some pics for the rest of us stuck at home too.

came thru yesterday evening around 1800. there was 20" of fresh powder at Worthington Glacier visitors center. Top of the pass was wind scoured to rock, not much wind at the glacier, snows stayin put and setting in. Lots of chit there to tear up yer sled, needs more snow

Don't get in a hurry.. I posted before. Some guys were here last weekend.. I hope they brought there ROCK sleds.
It's not that impressive to watch a Dumb A$$ tear up there sled just to say they have been riding already. Just my opinion. Time will come when it's worth the trip. be patient you'll be glad you did.
