VAIL PASS FROM CAMP HAIL PARKING LOT

The road is groomed over Ptarmigan pass, so it is typically in good shape. You still have to pay the $6 usage fee. Plenty of parking. If there isn't room on the west side of Camp Hale (Pando) then you can drive toward Leadville and park in one of two other Camp Hale exits. I suppose you could park at Nova Guides too if they don't care. It only takes 5-10 minutes to be to the top of Ptarmigan pass from there.

Bug,

Thanks for the info. Copy all regarding the $6.... The other parking lots you speak about are for the "Skiers" I thought? Have been there 5-10 times and everyone says to stay away from those locations...?

Thanks again.

I heard that Berthoud Pass is closed due to an avy tonight (as of 7PM), if thats the case tomorrow morn, we're headed to VP to hang with the tree huggers.

I left Colorado Springs at 0430 this morning and when I got to Leadville I was greeted with 3-4 inches of fresh powder. Did not actually ride around Vail Pass but I suspect all went well.

Thanks for everyones assistance.

By the way, I understand that the Woodland Park club is meeting on the 9th (at the Mason Jar), off of North Nevada and I-25. Eats are at 1800, meeting at 1900? Correct????

You are fine to park at the other locations. I do not think they have ANY areas that are skiers only. They have the rest area parking that is off limits other than travellers coming through.

vail pass closed at noon mdt today saturday...
Vail Pass riding area was not closed down...

To clarify this post... I-70 at the top of Vail Pass was shut down both directions to a semi that rolled over and had a fatality. This happened at around 10:30 am, road was re-opened at 3:00 pm for one lane and at around 3:15 the entire road was re-opened.

Anyone travelling into the area can get road conditions from Grand Junction to Denver by calling (970)479-2200 (hit 1 after the recording comes on)
