Utah video premiers????

Huge thanks to Boondockers, Brewvies, and all the equipment donors for a great movie night. The sled community came together for a great evening of socializing and stoke and donated $9,300 to the Utah Avalanche Center to support avalanche forecasting in regions mostly used by motorized users. For those who missed out or who just can't get enough, join us in Ogden on Nov 5.

That seems like quite a lot of cash for donations...how does it stack up to the other events the UAC holds for other user groups throughout the year?

That is the biggest single movie night we have ever had, up from about $5,500 the last 2 years. It is about the same total that we get from a similar ski movie at Brewvies (6 shows over 3 nights). Our biggest single fundraiser is the Black Diamond Fall Fundraiser party in September, everyone welcome but certainly more of a ski & snowboard-oriented crowd. We typically raise $60-65k in one night there, but BD has been doing that event for us for 21 years.

About 2/3 of the funding to produce avalanche forecasts and education in Utah comes from events like that, personal and business donations, and grants. We couldn't help you without all the support you give us.

More important than the money is all the brotherhood and support the motorized community has shown us and the appreciation of avalanche issues you have all shown. No matter how we play in the snow, we all want to have a great day and come home to our families tired, hungry, and ready to do it again. The best way to grow old doing that every weekend is to learn about and respect avalanches.

Best wishes for a great winter.
