Utah Forum Ride / Fundraiser

Ok, in an effort to make it more affordable for everybody and to get people on board with the ride and fundraiser, I have gotten approved to lower the rate to $75 per night per room. This is actually below our costs when considering housekeeping and management costs. We are only a couple weeks out and would like to see a lot of people on board. If we can get enough people involved Craig Gordan is still willing to do an avalanche training class for us. If you have any questions, please PM me.

Come on PEOPLE!!!!

We'd love to come but don't want to be those newbies that everyone hates. Haha. Will there be riding for those of us who well..suck? I'd love to ride with the big boys but definitely not up to it yet. We're looking at buying sleds in february (yay tax return for having a kid!) so we'd need to rent a sled to even ride. But hey, we're from Evanston and can bring beer!

I really think you should make it. Entertainment and education at such an affordable price all for a good cause. Oh and :beer;:beer;:beer;

As far as groups riding, I think it will be hard to tell until we are standing in the parking lot trying to figure out what comfort levels people ride at. I would honestly love to see at least 2-3 groups but doesn't seem like a lot of weekday participation will take place.:(

Wucha think Adam????

Got to start somewhere don't we?;):)

What sleds are you looking at buying?

I'll admit, you got me with the beer comment. :beer;

We're unsure...my dad's pushing us to get yamaha's because of reliability and he knows about them, but they're pricey and not listed much on ksl. We have a friend that would sell us his polaris, and it does ok. I like the cats but told they run hot. I guess the only thing we arent looking at are skidoos. Haha.

Being from Wyoming, we're automatically the beer providers at any function so we have a decent stash. :D

Please could post a detailed itinerary of the 27th.
As said above it is a long drive for one day ride and a avy class.
What are the snow conditions? I do not feel like wrecking a sled. (weather is not looking that "good" and no one can tell this far out.)
I know it is for a good cause but funds are tight now.

Agreed. I think it will be best to work out the groups when everybody is there.

So far I know this is who will be there.
Ron and Jeanette
Marc and Stacie Stephenson and Marc's Business partner (Sorry I forgot his name)
Dunatic (right?)
Roger Eggett (one of the Bear River Lodge owners0
Myself
and a whole lot of maybes.

Here's the deal....we are going to ride and have fun weather people are there or not so let's get a few more people firmed up.

If anybody needs rentals I will give them at half price. Unless I have already made prior arrangements (you know who you are).

The plan at this point is the night of the 26th will just be spent getting settled into the cabins and getting to know people. If we get enough numbers of people this would be the night for the avy class, but I am not going to waste Craig Gordans time unless we get enough people to make it worth it. On the 27th we plan to ride at 10 AM. The night of the 27th will be the poker night with proceeds from the buy in's being donated to Summit County Search and Rescue. Winners redeem their chips for gift certificates good for cabin rentals and ATV/snowmobile rentals at the Bear River Lodge.

The weekend prior to the 26th and 27th I will get a firm count of people, and contact them and get a breakfast and dinner put together for the 27th.

If you would like to take a look at the cabins we'll be staying in take a look here. http://www.bearriverlodge.com/fivebedroom.shtml
They are very nice and more than likely you will be planning another trip up with friends and family after spending some time in them.;)

If you have any further questions please PM me or give me a call.

Sent you a PM

ttt. Only a little over a week away and it looks like it will be snowing next week.....just in time!

We're really thinking we're in. If we can find a babysitter for our 5 month old on a wednesday.

I am a bit nervous about rentals, since we just had to pay for a new a-arm on a friend's sled but the old sleds we use just aren't cutting it anymore.

As for sledding, we suck. We went out with the big boys today and definitely can't walk the walk. I'd LOVE for someone to help me with counter steering so I don't have to wait for someone to get me unstuck all the time.

So long story short, if I can find someone to watch our daughter and he promises not to break anything -- we're in!

I can do what I can to help with the counter steering and the easiest way to get unstuck with minimal effort. You should really make this ride. You would learn a lot. Not that it's some sort of learning ride but riding with others that are willing to teach you new sledding skills will help you gain confidence and progress in this sport that you enjoy.

I forgot to mention I have skills on getting stuck and flopping off too.:D

Is this forum/fundraiser ride going to happen or what?

It is still going to happen. Even if it is just a few of us good friends getting out and riding and hanging out. Just a week away now. I think we will have lots of fun regardless of how many people show up.:beer;:D

I'll have my kids cut some SNOW FLAKES to tape to your camera. They did a great job at Xmas time.

Good news Ron, this is taken off the Utah avalanche center forecast for the western uintas.

"We'll see another brief period of snow this morning before things clear up for the afternoon. The next wave of storm is already hitting California, and will pay us a visit this evening. We can expect another 4 - 8 inches of snow tonight before the storm exits east Thursday morning. Friday the jet shifts to a northwesterly flow which will produce for the north slopes, while the rest of the range will largely miss out on the weekend’s storms."
