Utah Avalanche Center Workshop

Craig really wants to get this class going and apologizes for the short notice. He’s had lots of requests for a class like this and suddenly had a hole in his schedule when he could run it.

Willing to go forward with just 8 or 9 he says we will have virtually one on one instruction on Saturday. He’s also willing to accept anyone who shows up on Friday evening at 6 with payment in hand.

Friends of the Avalanche Center and Rocky Mountain Sledders have been advertising the class too and they make up the balance of people attending.

Craig doesn’t know when he’ll be able to run a class like this again but would like to do something next winter that has more notice… but a class then could either be too late for someone or canceled depending on funding, weather, or Avalanche activity.

This is your best chance for a high quality experience that could save you or someone you ride with!!

Avy Class

email sent I hope there's still room. I'll be rollin in strait from the mountain:)

Craig, Have we got enough folks to do this class? I know as of last night that Sunridge Kim had a conflict and wasn't going to be able to come. What ever you need to do we'll understand if not enough signed up. Just let us know on here. My plan is still to be in SLC Friday night.

Like Dunatic said we all appreciate everything you do for us.

thanks, Doug

We're good to go... see y'all tonight! If you have any problems finding the location give me a shout at 801-231-2170.

tonights class ran until after 9:30 but was the best intro ever of the 4 I've been to. I think tomorrow ON the snow with these great teachers and scholars of snow will be a rare chance to hone skills we all need where we ride. Look forward to tomorrow and thank you to Craig and his crew. the best of the best these guys!!!

The on the snow class today was great. I learned a ton.

Thanks to Craig and his crew with the Utah Avalanche Center.

Also a thank you to Park City Snow Cats, they allowed to access some of their private property to make this class possible.

there is no way to explain how much the passion and dedication of Craig and Grant and Ted and their team translates into a safer world for us to play in. My deepest thanks for today and all days you all spend adding to the wood pile of life though your hard work. It is appreciated and more fully understood now than before. The post-day discussion was that we are now more prepared to change the future than we were. Today helped me gain more knowledge and that can never hurt.. shout out to Pak City Powdercats too for their help. Those folks have some great terrain to ski. hint. Give it a try you powderhounds!

Today was the best day ever!

Loved it all. Is it ghost riding when a sled hits a tree... while being towed? or is this an entirely new category? ha. I have to admit that after the fact... that was funny! It will hurt more when I order parts.

Thanks to all who put this on for us and nice to meet so many new friends.

I am sorry I missed the class....

I have been through 2 avalanche 1 courses and would like to take the avy 2 course, Craig where would I go to take an avy 2 course? do you put one on?

The past two days of learning were incredibly valuable, although admittedly difficult, for me. I appreciate the efforts of the Utah Avalanche Center and the Park City Snow Cats for their graciousness, expertise, passion, and friendship in coordinating this event. I hope more sledders will take advantage of this great source of knowledge.

Great to meet so many new, great peeps!

Thank you so much Craig, Grant and crew!

Thank you and photobucket link

First a huge thank you to Craig and Grant of the Utah Avalanche Center, Ted from the US Forest Service and the Park City Powder Cats for use of their facilities!

The Avalanche class has taught me more about the snow we ride and play on then anything I've ever read or experienced before. I might take it again or at least volunteer to assist next time around.

I took almost 80 photos and instead of posting them one by one this link should take you to Photobucket where you can view the album as a slideshow or select individual photos for download.

This may be the best photo of the day when Craig was doing a compression test and broke the over 4 foot column free into his hands.

Thanks

A a special thanks to Craig and the Utah Avalanche Center, as well as Pat and all the folks at Park City Powder Cats who worked behind the scenes to make this happen, and a special thanks to all those who participated as students in this class, I'd ride with any of you any time. This was such a great group of riders if I were evrer in a situation on the mountain this is the group of riders I'd like by my side.Thank you to eveybody who participated to make this class happen, the class was excellent. The class room potion on Friday night was the best avalanche presentation I've been to and the field day on Saturday was extremely informative. We had a small group of students (11 I think) and five instructors, 4 from the Utah Avalanche center and one fron Park City Powder Cats so the Student to instuctor ratio was incredible which made for a lot of in depth hands on experience. I would highly recommend this class to all sledders, Craig and his team are absolutely passionate about what they do, It was great to meet and ride with new peeps and I look forward to more rides and more training in the future

Al:)

Wow… thanks for all the great feedback, kind words and most importantly, the opportunity to connect with everyone. Y’all are an awesome group of folks! It’s outstanding we finally made this happen and I’m psyched everybody got so much out of it. Everyone already possessed strong avy skills and all the instructors commented on how solid a group it was. In addition, we’re amazed at your riding abilities!
For the future- I look forward to offering this level of education along with more advanced clinics if riders like Dunatic want us to put something together. We'll get this going for early next season. In the mean time, if there’s anything that didn’t make sense or if anyone has any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Thanks again for allowing us to preach the avalanche gospel and for all the hard work you do helping to support our organization.
BTW- What’s the damage adding up to on your sled Doug?

good news is...

I talked to TCP and they are sure it is the head gasket that we have done before. aftermarket motor after all. since I shut down early and did not run it that should just be a gasket.

The factory now has an update kit for the lower pLASTIC to make the 06,07,08 like the new 09 lowers and it costs a lot less than I thought. I'll get the 09 bumper too.

so overall I'll be great for well under a grand. wish that was under a hundred but... could have been a full motor too. so, count my blessings.

Sorry to have my sled be a drag on the team at day's end. :( kinda goes with my injuries. Time to get sled and rider both fixed. Thanks for all the help that day.
