Using water method to pull primary?

Have always done this trick with my skidoos, using water and teflon tape wrapped around primary clutch bolt. Seems to not want to work on my 19 alpha. Anyone else have any luck with this?

You can do the water method if you find a bolt with the same threads as inside the clutch. This is not the clutch bolt as it is on Doos.

I have seen a few of all brands not want to come off. use the water method with full pressure and add heat with a torch only the center section of the clutch only to about 120* this is operating temp and will not hurt the seals. it will come off at this point.

Need to use a lot of teflon tape so it seals the water well. Ive not used enough before and had problems popping it off

Being new here, can someone explain this method or point me towards a video of it?

Thanks in advance.

You either need a clutch bolt (skidoo) that threads to clutch, or use a puller designed for your clutch, tip sled on side, plumbers tape the threads of bolt, fill or 3/4 full in clutch, I also use grease on the threads/plumbers tape. You can use a wrench or impact, slowly turn until it pop off, Takes a lot of tape on threads,

Same clutch puller for the older models works on the 18-19's. I already used it and it worked great. You need a LOT of teflon tape.

Is this an emergency or just something you want to try? I think I paid $30 for my puller and it works quickly every time without dicking around with water/grease or tape.

It’s for stubborn ones. Just a puller, impact, heat does not work every time, most but not every.

Can be done with just a grease gun, no water, without tipping sled on side if you’ve got a few towels for cleanup. No need for Teflon as the grease stays put.

I’ve only needed to do this with three over the years, (one water, two grease) flat works when needed.

I have found that if one is stubborn pull the sled outside for a few hours with the puller in it. when you come out it will either be laying in the belly pan as the crank shaft shrinks a little from the cold. or take a heat gun and put on the center of the clutch while its still sitting outside after about 5 min you will hear a loud pop and it will be off.

Our 40 degree home temp may not be as effective as your -40 is to do that.

Done it, but ave temps aren’t below freezing at the house much of our winter.
