Using Non - Polaris Oil

Does anyone know that if you switch and used some other brand of oil, like legend for example, as long as it meets manufactures requirements, can polaris void the warranty? Is this type of situation covered by the Magnuson-Moss Act?

Polaris can't void the warranty without proving the oil you used caused the problem. This is where a good dealer will fight it for you. I have always been told not to mix non synthetic oil with synthetic oil. I just ran the first tank low and started using AmsOil. No problems in years with AmsOil.

I was under the same impression. Had the dealer today when i bought my 2013 tell me that they will. I told them thats BS. I know they just would like to sell more oil but i just wanted a straight answer. I run legend oil and its amazing.

My dealer said the same exact thing.

as long as the oil you are using meets or exceeds polaris oil your good to go!!

KLOTZ for life

lol I am sitting here with my klotz sweatshirt I got for free from buying so many cases

I ran Redline in my 11 pro. Had some motor issues. Dealer never said anything about the oil. Even warrantied my parts 2 months after warranty was up.

The only way a manufacturer can make u use their oil is if they supply it free of charge!
this is true..and covered in the magnuson/moss act..you can use any oil..as long as it meets or exceeds the requirements /specifications of the manufacturers recommended oil.......if it does not meet thuse specs..they can deny coverage...........

Yep, it's illegal for them to mandate oem oil. But consider this Poo VES II Gold oil consistently rank as one of the top 2 Stroke oils, better than Interceptor all day long.

And here's what's weird: I live in the same city as the Amatuzio's. I live right across the river from where they make their oils in superior, wi. Yet I can get a jug of Poi VES II Gold oil for $5 cheaper everywhere I look than Interceptor at those same stores. No Brainer for me, I'll use VES II Gold.

MAN, don't you know your going to scare all the little kids with that sled!
I burned down three so called bullet proof 2007 600 Polaris motors using Amsoil Interceptor. (I used to buy it by the 55 gallon drum. Cheaper)
They were covered under warranty, but the dealer said it was an oil issue. I had the oil tested by Amsoil and they said their test came out good. What else are they going to say? So who do you believe??????....... Buyer beware.

I have a 2007 660 with 4600 miles on it, 2500 Turbo miles and no issues. The only oil in the sled was AMSOIL interceptor.

Its funny how there seems to be 2 extremes in this case. I run Klotz in all my new stuff but it isnt becasue I had a problem with AMSOIL.

I ask what else is a polaris dealer going to say......its there fault? You really beleive the sole reason your 2007 sled went down 3 times is because you put amsoil in it and not another oil? By simply changing what oil you put in it would have affected the outcome 3 times?

I find the oil debate such a silly debate based on where we get the statistics to back claims up. "John runs brand A, and never has had a problem, so I should run brand A". Or, " John runs brand A, and his engine went down, so if I run brand A my engine may go down.". Maybe it has to do with something we have control over, what type of oil we run, so we feel the outcome of our engine is based on the oil we run, or at least we have some control.

Now i am not trying to argue all oils are the same, i am just saying the logic is a little silly. The feeling of the unexplained engine failure seems to always point to the oil. I think to some degree we all do it though. What always gets thrown under the bus as the culprate of an unexplained engine failure? Oil. For example I have and old standup jet ski that the engine went down on me. I was not able to determine the cause, other than old age. Comes time to run it after the rebuild and I have a mental block of running the same oil I was running in it when it went down. Why? Because I was running it when it went down and right on the oil bottle it claims it reduces friction, heat, and engine scuffing, which it didn't, at least not enough! I want to blame something, got to be the oil. I need to changee something so it won't happen again right? One thing I can change is the oil. Ended up getting past the mental block and running the same oil, but i can see how we come up with the silly logic sometimes.

I agree. I like to believe Amsoil isn't the problem. But what I stated is true. Like I mentioned, who do you believe.
I run Dominator in the dirt bike, Interceptor in my chain saws, and Polaris VES Gold Plus in my sleds. For what it's worth I was told by Amsoil not to run Dominator in my chain saws, and it is not recommended for non racing sleds.
I also have a friend that runs Johnson outboard marine oil in his motor cross race bikes, and snow cross race sleds. $.02

Dominator is designed for "Race engines that require frequent tear-down and inspect." The oil is designed for peak performance but DOES NOT have any anti corrosion additives and will rust your crank!

Is this you Eric Marsh? I'm running Legend zx-2sr in my Pro and M8. Really liked the stuff last year, and I ran VES gold plus and Cat APV for years before that. Don't Boo and Jamie run Legend too? I talked to Michelle at Oregon Trail Sports a couple years ago about oil and she said not to worry about warranty claims if I'm running the Legend zx-2SR. Your dealer is blowing steam...

Jordan

I ran Inteceptor in my D7, D8, Pro and never saw a single motor problem (My D8 never went down in 2700 miles!). I ran 4-stroke in my YFZ450, R6, CRF250R and not one problem. I also run AmsOil in my Duramax (2nd Duramax) and wife's Ford. I change my oil at around 15k- 20k miles in my Duramax and 10k in my wife's gasser. Not a single problem in any of them. I do oil tests in the cars and everything looks awesome. I'd say the burn down problem posted above came from some other variable.

Yes Jordy its me! Yeah we have ran legend in all our sleds being arctic cats. New sled equals new dealer and i know he is blowing smoke but i started to wonder if it was more true with these new 4 yr warrantys on the new pro. So i was just checking and ive talked to Mark and legend about the oil and its specifications. The dealer said they are having to send oil and fuel samples down for a warranty claim. I know a guy who blew a motor and they denied his warranty claim because of his can and we all know that doesn't blow a motor!

I believe I said, the dealer said it was an oil issue, and Amsoil said it wasn't. Like I said. Who do you believe? Which was my point.
I was just bringing up a situation that happened to me.
One thing I didn't make clear (and I apologize for) is this happened on two different 2007 600 stock SwitchBacks. Over a two year period.Yes, both were mine.:sorry:

Polaris denied a warranty on my 09 Dragon 800 because I took the hood foam off and replaced it with heat tape. This was after 3 prior failures in which they warrantied it even with the heat tape in place of the hood foam. Typical Polaris BS. Said I had a pipe on it with no proof.

I think oil is in a different category from altering factory parts. Like others said if it meets oem specs (which ZX-2sr does) then they can't deny a warranty. Polaris would have to supply you with VES gold plus if they tried to deny warranty on other oem spec oil. The automobile industry can't deny warranty claims based on if you use Pennsoil instead of Mobile 1 like what might come in the car from the factory, so I can't ever see how Polaris could get away with that BS. A good dealer will go to bat for you no matter what on a warranty. Too bad there are a lot of piss poor dealers out here in CO and WY (some good ones too though, but few). I buy all my parts and sleds from Michelle@OTS. Cheaper, quicker turn-around on warranty claims (Arctic Cat at least, no experience yet with her and Polaris), better parts prices over anyone, and much more of a personal person to deal with. She actually cares about your business.

Get hooked up with AMSOIL

You need to get signed up as a preferred customer with AMSOIL. You can get their products at dealer cost. Living where you do, there shouldn't be a freight issue. I wouldn't think any store could touch that price. No brainer for me!
