Using a flatbed

Does anyone on here use a pickup with a flatbed on it to go sledding with? My buddy has one, but i only saw him throw his single sled on it once, and its a wacky truck anyways...

reason beeing, me and my buddy down here in college were thinking about just making a wooden flatbed 8x8, for his truck, seeing as he doesnt need his bed in the winter.

benefits- 2 foot lower center of gravit
sleds are out of the wind way more beeing down so much
less body roll on the truck. less leverage.
easeir to load(deck is like 2.5 feet above the ground)

cons- loss of bed. for a few months. its on a mid 90s chevy half ton. the idea was that he knows the weight isnt to much to drive. hes taken it around with more weight in hay in the back. we just wanted to help keep the center of gravity down and make it more user friendly. the deck would also be lighter than the bed, so it would be pretty nice setup, or so it seems in my mind. and use a sort of wall in the front that pops out and is a ramp

a couple of guys up here use them, both have folding wings on the sides that widen the bed to 8' when lowered. in the summer they put the wings up and the width is the same as a regular box. one has a wooden deck, the other steel. both of their fold down wings are expanded metal framed with 1" box tubing, the ramps slide in under the bed.

I used to use the company flatbed. It had a 14' bed on a 1 ton dually Chevy. It also had a lift gate. It worked great. The only problem with the lift gate was that it wasn't quite big enough. I rolled the sled off it once and broke my brand new windshield.

yeah, seems life the lift gate wouldnt be enough size, i just like the though of a 2 foot lower center of gravity for loading unloading, so it would be nice to drive, especially since my truck is lifted.

If anyone is interested in something like this, pm me.
I have a line on a '03 2500 Ram Quadcab black 4x4 Hemi with 83,000.
This truck has damage to the box so I was thinking "perfect flatbed project".

I could build to your specs or whatever you want.

Like I said, PM me for details.
