used sleds with new or rebuilt motors

dont you guys kinda find it funny that there are SO many newer used sleds out there with less than 1000 miles and they say new or rebuilt motor? and alot of the time they try and say that there wasnt anything wrong with it but they rebuilt it anyways. i doubt this is the case in most situations. depressing that these 2 strokes just drop like flies these days. my old indy 500 with the fuji had 8500 miles on her when we sold it and it still ran strong.

You can thank the EPA for alot of the failures on the newer two strokes because they have to run them so lean and cut the oil consumption down so much to pass the tests. Mine is in for an engine right now with 950 miles on it

A whole rebuilt motor or just a new top end? I know a lot of guys throw new pistons and rings in every 1000-1500 miles or going into every season. Just cheap preventative maintenance.

Quit looking at Skidoo and you won't have that problem. :D

thats just bull. some people are ripping you off when they sell the snowmobile they go like "motor is recent rebuilt or new motor from powersport place or by him/herself". Not without proof of recipes or paperwork that is rebuilt or new parts in it.

I made a bad descison when I bought the vertical escape (over 3000 miles on chassis), was told that motor is rebuilt (brand new pistons, jugs, and crank), by polaris powersport store (about 200 miles on rebuilt from what I was told). I asked him for proof of recipe and he didnt have it but the motor looks like it was like new in picture. Bought it. rode about 200 miles later, the motor locked up. Then took the motor to powersport place and took it apart. He told me the crank is junk, welded on wrong spot where its not suppose to be on. I contacted to that guy who sold me the snowmobile, have not respond me back. More $$$ flushed in the toilet.

Lesson learned. I wont fall for that again... ever.

For newer sleds that just had motor rebuilt or new, must have recipes or paperwork.

just saying.

I keep the recipes of my motor that recent rebuilt with new indy dan bottom end and new pistons and clutch.

Roughly 75,700 miles on the seat of a sled. That is a ton of trail riding.
