US-287 from Ft Collins, CO to Laramie, WY Open in Winter ?

Figuring out drive routes for a trip in Jan. Not sure if I can count on the US 287 cut off or not (i.e. is it open ?). If not, I'm assuming best Denver to Laramie route is via Cheyenne ?

That's true, they like to close I80 west at Cheyenne when the Summit has a snowflake or two.

I-70 is a slowed/stopped mess, that section of 80 you'll be lucky if you don't get killed!

My boss drives that daily, year round. Generally better weather than 80, and those driving it tend to be less crazy. I80 can be a real disaster. I take happy jack road when I drive to Cheyenne.

Have done this as well. I80 will be closed and 287 will be open on a frequent basis.

If you're taking 287 due to I80 being closed it's not a pleasant drive, but if you're cautious it will get you to Laramie.

Yep, its open and good. We make the trip from Ft Collins a lot. We alternate between taking 287 or 1-25/1-80. The time ends up about the same. They both stink during a storm but hard to complain about weather and pray for snow all at the same time
