Unimployment blues, how I keep busy!!!!!

If a plane is on a treadmill, the treadmill is spinning and the plane tries to take off, does it fly? :D

It depends. Is the plane moving forward at all or is the treadmill simply spinning the planes wheels and the plane is motionless? If the plane is motionless it simply cannot fly unless a very, very, very, very strong wind was blowing directly at the plane and creating lift under the wings. Now, if the plane is moving forward it must have enough speed to create enough upward lift force to equal or outweigh the downward force of the plane to fly.

We had this same discussion while I was in college and I ended up speaking to one of my Aerospace Engineering professors about this. Basically, it is impossible for a plane to fly in this scenario.

Sorry about the long post but this question brings back memories of sitting around with a bunch of Engineers whom each had their own view on this.:D

I could tell you if I knew humidity and barometric pressure. BTW, since you have the time could you find out for us how close a fly gets to the ceiling before he flips over and lands on his feet?:D

I have never even thought to ask that question about the fly. I'll probably never be able to look at another fly again without thinking about it. I have to go look for a fly now. Bye.

Vacuum bag the oreo for a couple days and then weigh it before and after dunking. Since humidity and milk are roughly the same density the difference in grams is the maximum milk soppage in CC's...

...but the real question is what if you port the cookie? What brand of milk is best?... and the big one...are you sponshured yet?

The plane flys even if the treadmill is turning 10 times as fast because it's not propelling itself with the tires. If a glider was being launched with a pickup on a treadmill it would be in trouble. If you were waterskiing on a river and being towed by an airplane would it make any difference to your speed how fast the river was moving in the opposite direction?

The Oreo will not soak as much at higher elevations due to lower atmospheric pressure.

Bring it around Town

See What happens when you become un-employed...
You guys ar losing it..

Come to Wyoming where there is ample work year around
Wages over 100K year easy.... I am hiring over 75 peeps for 2009 work load 80 miles south of Jackson Hole !!!

Plenty of snow/ sunshine / and no seasonal work.. just steady and you won't care much anylonger about cookies and the level of milk absorbed .....Good God!!

What's the repeatability of your study? What's the significance of the measurement-induced errors? Are all your metrics orthogonal? As mentioned before, I think we need to run this test over not just temperature and humidity, but vibration as well. Establish your control variables, you'll probably want a few replicates as well to get a good confidence value.

humidity comes into play though because of the amount of moisture the cookie already retains before the test starts... :D

but it shouldnt since it is coming from a sealed pakage that has a set amount of moisture in the pakage prior to opening.

Yes that is true.. to an extent.. however does the company that seals the bags have very strict limits on the amount of moisture thats in the bag when its sealed?.. In a place with high humitidy.. it wouldnt take much time for the moisture content to change..

To defeat this theory.. one would have to test different cookies with different moisture contents.. such has place one in the oven and cook at low heat to rid of moisture.. then place one in a ziplock with a damp towel in there (making sure the cookie doesnt touch).. then test o normal cookie directly from the package right after opening it..

:D:D:D:eek::D:D:D:D

a regular oven won't do it. Need a laboratory environmental chamber.

The ones I have in my lab will do -70° to 400°C ±0.2°C, 5-95% RH ±3%.

When you get the humidity down and temp down to -60 or so, when you crack the door open all the moisture in the air that mixes with the air in the chamber turns to snow :D I've frozen all sorts of stuff in them. They're way fun. Can also control them from a computer, adding to the excitement :)

Ponder these and get back to us on the answers:

Why isn't there any Mouse flavored cat food?

Why don't they make scrotum-flavored dog food?

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Is Disneyland a large people trap, designed by a Mouse? And is Disney World a better people trap?

Can God create a rock to large for him to lift?

How can the Government acknowledge UFOs, if they know what they are?

hey Mountain Doo? what kind of work are you hiring for??? I have been looking for a good reason to move out that direction!!!!! I would be moving back here in april but I would be interested in heading out for the winter aslong as I get weekends off and do some sledding!!!!! As far as the oreo goes??? unless I move out to jackson to work with Mountain Doo Im gonna have to wait till Jan. 13th when we are in Steamboat springs riding to find out about the elevation question! And repeatability??? I ran out of oreos when I did the test so I will have to walk a block and a half to get some more and my golf cart battery is dead! :)

My buddy said MN is 1100ft??? I dont have a clue I guess? As far as humidity goes??? Since the soaking only goes on for 20 seconds I thought that would eliminate humidity because you dont soak till it cant soak anymore??? Has anybody else tried this yet??? Dont tell me im the only one sitting at home on a friday night watching MN WILD Hockey game and checking snowest forum!!!!!

Actually you are not off by much:

Glencoe is a populated place located in McLeod County at latitude 44.769 and longitude -94.152. The elevation is 997 feet

You can work all year but it is still Wy. If I were unemployed I would be riding most everyday from October to May And if you want to make some money come up to AK and work on the slope and have 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off and make bank. If you look at it this way you only work half the year and live in the some of the best terrain in North America to ride in and you can also catch salmon all day.

I love Alaska

PS If you take the creme out you will have more surface area to absorb milk

Also: If you choke a smurf, what color does he turn?

When you're all done figuring OREOs out,
Grab our new president by the ankles, whip him up in the air so his lips stick to the ceiling and then time how long it takes for them to break suction and he hits the floor. Then let him eat watermelon and repeat the proceedure to compare results
