If you are worried about dusty conditions, then put the socks over top of the uni`s or put the oil on the that will collect dust or belt dust better but you will have to clean and reapply the oil regularly, I was told a few times it will restrict a bit of airflow. but that would be better than filling the carbs with belt dust, stock air box set up IS NOT sealed very well from factory if you take the stock air box off the side cover you will notice behind it there are about 6 or more holes on the back side between the outer airbox and the side cover and this is a bad spot where it sucks in belt dust, I have read where guys put fine mesh material glued on over the holes, beleive it or not best suggested mod out there for one on dootalk.com that knows is Panty hose material beleive it or not but It Works...
if you take your stock air box off most likely I bet !! you will find belt dust and stringy material in the inlets of the carbs, if you want to be more surprised take the carbs loose and then take the reed valves out and then see how much belt dust is acumulated all over them and clean them with carb cleaner, this should be done on any of these motors no matter what year rev chassis, summit or mxz. if you don`t have material in these spots then your sled has been cleaned before, doesn`t have any miles on it or your clutching doesn`t wear belt but I would really doubt that, Lol
Oil injection delete is another mod I finished on my sled, I`d say about a good 10-12 lbs more off the sled, along with all the other weight loss mods I have done and stiil going at it. but these mods are starting to get into the spendy parts since i have done most all the free or cheap mods I have read or been suggested.
