I am just trying to find out some info.
I like to go to a new location that I haven't ridden before at least once every year. I am not an expert rider but can hold my own and get where I want to go usually.

I have ridden with several people that I have met on snowest or other places that the first time I have met them in person was loading or unloading sleds. Sometimes it is a necessity of work schedule or them being from out of town and even me wanting to try a new area.

I would like to know how many people would be willing to show a fellow sledder around. Whether it is a rider from your area or someone from out of town. Would you take a rider along as just someone that needs a riding partner, a person unfamiliar with the area or even someone just getting into the sport.

Let me hear your opinions.

Tell me your reasons why or why not.

My first time out in cali I met up with a couple guys off a forum that I had never met before and it turned into a really fun ride.

If I was headed out with friends and saw someone all alone, I would invite them along for a number of reasons.
1) Safety - no one likes getting stuck alone, or even worse having to stay the night because you have no way of self-recovery. The odds are in your favor if you travel in a group.
2) If they are new to the sport they'll likely want more friends that sled, and spending a day riding together is good for everyone. This is also an opportunity to teach them about responsible riding.
3) Even if they aren't new to the sport, we can all use more friends with common interests.

Personally I would gauge how they ride for awhile and then decide if its going to be an easy day or if it is going to get more technical. I would hate to drop off into a deep bowl or climb up a nasty ridge if they aren't up for it.

ttt

if ya got skis and they r attached to a motor and isn't a polaris , skidoo, i will ride with u lol! I m down to ride with anyone who trys to improve there ability each and every time out my 2 cents! More the marrier! joke on the polaris and skidoo thing dont need to start any negativity!!!

I'm one of those guys that currently rely on those willing to ride with unfamiliar people, due to being gone for 20 years (Air Force). So I feel it's appropriate to give Christopher a big thanks for taking a chance with me. There's another 4m member that I don't recall let me ride with them also. I think it's safe to say now that I have several people I can go riding with next season.

So to all those willing to invite strangers to join them riding, thank you!

Well, I am going to be on the other side of this coin next season.
My 19yr son, who has been my primary riding partner since I got into this sport, is leaving on a 2yr mission.

SOOooo..

I will have no regular partner to ride with now, and I will be in the constant hunt for other riders to hang with next winter!

Thanks.
Might have an opportunity to do a little more exploring next year outside of Island Park.

But I sure hope the price of gas comes back down!!

I'll ride with anyone as long as they're safe and the group isn't large. I've met a number of people off this forum who turned out to be damn good people. I was lucky that they let me ride with them and I hope we can do it again next season!

Just a FYI for people wondering if meeting people on the forum works for riding. I Met Christopher, Turbo lover, Tsteff, Aphoric, Backcountryislife, phatty, colorado matt, bparks, track2wheels, chaos, p money and some others I cant name off the back my head. So what am I trying to tell you? If you want to meet other people to ride and hang out with this is the place do it.

10 out of 11.....not bad for meeting good peeps

As I mentioned in a different post, snowmobilers are great people overall. They are willing to help each other out and they are all about having a good time on the sleds. I got back into the sport after an absence of almost 30 years. I was amazed at how much things had changed. I rode most of the first year with my wife and son and never really improved. A group of local guys kind of took me under their wing and I started riding with them. My skills improved dramatically after watching and learning from these guys. It is nice to see people's responses here because I would love to get to other areas to ride and it would be great to have somebody to go with who knows the area. I am by no means a good rider but am getting better due to other sledders helping. Maybe I will meet up with some of the forum members this coming winter. I have ridden my ATV with people I have met on ATV Forums and have made some life long friendships. I am sure that snowmobilers are the same quality of people. Hope everybody has as good of summer as can be expected without snow!!!!

I think snowmobilers are a better group of people. Not saying your friends arent great, just the ATV group of people in general. I myself was on an ATV forum for a number of years and I did meet a lot of great people, but I also found a lot of thieves just trying to scam money. I have made probably more transactions here than I ever did with the ATV's and never once was I leery of the person I was dealing with. Everyone has been great.. I have met Duckrider, Turbolover, Guidoxpress and rlcofmn all the way from Alaska. All great guys.. I took rlcofmn riding while he was here and had a great time. Havent rode with anyone else from here yet, but hopefully one of these days I get a chance to. I love sledding and I find that fellow sledders make the sport that much better..:thumb::beer;

whats up...no more springs?

I am getting out of the army in 2 weeks. I will be moving back to Idaho unless I can score a good job then stay here. I will be coming back time to time to ride with track2wheels and the boys. Rabbit ears is one my favorite riding spots and worth the drive.

Riding with new folks.

I have ridden with several fellas that I have met on the forum and some that I have met in the parking lot. My friends and I met one fella in the parking lot that was going to go out by himself. He was from Minnesota and was in Idaho on a 60 day job, so he brought his sled. We had a great time and I know I felt better knowing he wasn't out there by himself. He was a good rider, but you never know.
One group that I met on the forum has turned into several groups, which means that there are many more rides I need to schedule time off for. And I am looking forward to those days off!!
I must say, I haven't had a bad trip yet with any of those fellas. So, if you're in the McCall area next winter just drop me a note!
Here's some pics of some of the fellas!

TreewellDweller, I know that myself and 2 or 3 others will be making at least one trip down from northern Idaho to McCall next winter. Would be great to look you up and ride with somebody who has knowledge of the area. I just hope I can make it until it is time to ride again!!!!! It's going to be a long summer.

D and I showed up in McCall for a week trip and didn't know a soul or the area. Met up with Amber Holt and Beamslayer and his awesome Wife, from on here and had a great time.
Fantastic folks to ride with and be friends with.

I would always be up to invite someone along, until they proved they were unsafe, or a non respector of boundries.
