uneven tread wear ?

my 27' enclosed ('02 wellscargo), has started to wear the outside edge of the right tire of the forward axle, at the same time, the outside edge of the left tire on the rear axle is wearing the same way...the part that gets me is the wear is only about half of the circumference of either tire...i just can't think of the mechanics that would cause this...any ideas from tire or trailer guys?....:face-icon-small-fro

Sounds like the axles are bent or moved causing the tires to be out of alignment. Did you look underneath the trailer to see if the axles moved? You may want to measure the distance from the front or rear of the frame to each axle to see if they are square with the trailer frame.

just to be clear if they are torsion axles they will visually look bent, like you ran over a big log dead center with the trailer. they are supposed to look like that due to the fact there is no leaf springs.

axles are torsion type....took it to a good tire shop, they measured axles to frame, to each other, checked bearings, couldn't come up with anything that made sense....i normally carry 3 sleds, two on one side, one on the other with tool boxes, gas and miscellaneous weight in front of the single sled, fairly balanced....put new tires on, had to, but hated throwing away old ones that still had 50% of the tread on the good part of the tire....with two tire guys and one frame guy plus me, just couldn't see a sensible cause..:face-icon-small-sad

I'd put some chalk around the outer tread on each tire in question, then if possible, trailer loaded and tires aired up to spec, drive in a straight line for a few hundred yards and check the chalk on the tires to see if it is still the same around the tires.

Electric brakes on both axles? Maybe drums are out of round.

..good ideas, i'll check them out..:light:

It is from turning left with the trailer. Mine does the same thing. I turn around a lot in my cul-de-sac to the left. I never noticed it on my trailer until I moved to the house I am in now and started turning the trailer around a lot. Triple axle trailers get it even worse when you have to turn around in tight spots.

That would wear the outside right and inside left with fairly even wear full circumference.

U can't see the cords from the inside.
Are ur tires good year marathon?

Kinda like the Firestone tires on Ford. Nothing was done about cord separation untill people started getting hurt. Then everyone knew about the problem. I knew about Firestone issues back in the 90's.
