Underhood insulation question

For those of you that have removed the hood insulation, what kind of heat tape if any are you using on the hood where the pipe is close fitting? I looked around home depot but there were many options between foil tape and what not. Thanks

Regular old hvac aluminum foil tape, has worked great for me running slp twins. I don't see the need to run the foil with foam sandwiched in between.

So the regular hvac foil tape will withstand the heat of the pipe? I couldn't find a temp that the tape is good to on the tape I bought so thats why I am hesitant to use it...

^^ x3... heat tape (aluminum tape) has always keep things cool for me as well.. its cheap and easy.. make sure everything is nicely warmed up or it doesn't stick worth a s**t... had it probably 3-4 inches from twins on an ole PS 580 and never had any problems...

I have a few places where the pipes get real close, so I just put a few layers of the aluminum tape to be sure and haven't had a problem yet.

Heat tape under hood

I have not put any tape on the wire harness at all just zipped it up tight and have not had any problems at all have been on a few rides now and still no problems with meltting issues

I used just reagular heat tape for hvac. On my wire loom under my pipes I put a few loose layers of tape over the injector wires to really insulate them from the temps.

Tape it, makes it shiny, and blinds your friends when they pull up to you on the mountain!

Removed all the insulation from my m7 at the beginning of the year. I didnt put any heat/foil tape anywhere and nothing has burned or melted after approx 300 miles. Friends 08 M8 hasnt melted anything either but he doesnt ride that much. I dont really see the point in removing 1lb of insulation just to replace it with 15oz of tape.

It sure will I have some on my hood an inch from my pipes and it shows no signs of burning or wear.

I removed all of the foam except the foam that already had heat tape on it.
Use an exacto knife and it looks real clean.

true....true......although insulation can absorb moisture and oil which does account for something!!

That was the other thing I was thinking about. It does save weight by pulling the insulation out, but I wasn't really sure in the end how much I will save by adding the heat tape to the hood...hummm the great debate...

I have a hard time keeping that cheap hvac tape stuck down. What brand are you guys using? The stuff with the mastic adhesive sticks like crazy, but that really would add a lot of weight, and be expensive.
