Uinta Mountain Snow Report

Drove truck up highway today. Gates have been open for a few weeks on highway end. Gates Still closed down mill creek road but road is muddy not snowy. Drove truck to gold hill road before we ran into any snow on the road. Snow is spotty and really heavy. Drove all the way to Steinecker Camp turnoff before we got stuck. About a foot and a half on road at steinecker. From steinecker to bald mountain there is some possible riding if you want to risk rippin skii's off on stumps or rocks. Lakes are beginning to thaw, maybe 4 inches of ice on mirror lake. Bald Mountain pass still has about 3 feet of solid snow in low lying areas. Hillsides and peak tops are bare, no snow. Still some good trail riding if you want to just go putt around a bit. Sleds run like crap with the warmer weather. Average temp at bald mountain is 44 degrees F today as of 10 am. Kind of windy but not bad. Lots of wildlife coming about. Got a nice picture of a bull moose drinkin from the enge of washington lake. Sled scared him off. Other than that I think im going to rack my sled in the shop til next year for now. Front end parts cost too much :eek: Will keep everyone up to date via Our website or this forum. Not to sure how kamas side is, got a call from a buddy he said he tried two days ago and said hell with it. Heard best riding was in wolf creek area this time of year... Oh well, its beer time! :beer;

Thanks for the report. I want to get up once this year to get some miles on the new engine in the dragon before next year. Will probably try wolf creek and at least put around alittle bit. I agree, front end parts are too expensive...especially on the dragons.

No prob.. we decided we'll probably take a spin up there again on Sunday for a final report on the conditions.. the snow that's left is going really fast but we don't have much else to do on a sunday :D:beer;

Update

Snows plowed just past gold hill, almost to the sulfer kilns/sulfer hill climb.. road is still negotiable by truck past that point.. we made it as far as steinecker again but snows really sloppy and a pain when you get stuck.. we were chained up this time so no probs getting back.. didn;t do no sledding, we racked our beasts on friday and tore them down saturday to do some revamping.. still a few people tooling up the road with sleds on their trailers, dunno where they were headed.. seen an rx-1 come out yesterday with no skis, looked like he smacked a rock pretty hard.. will keep you all informed..

Few people still like to sled up there through May and into June. Not the best but atleast there still out on sleds. Dont knock it bud.

Oh no way, no knockin here.. I just cant afford the repairs myself.. I envy those who are out there riding right now.. just wish we could get a freak snowstorm through here that puts down a foot or so like we did a few years back this time of year to cover all that rough slush thats out there right now..

We drove in 13 miles from the gate last night. Starting to look Patchy at best. All over for us.

Waiting for more dirt to show now.;)

you guys try bikin up the road past the parking lot? mill creek road? Me and bro took the 3 wheeler and my raptor out yesterday and ALMOST got to the base of the hill that leads to lym lake. Got to where the old cabins are in the meadow there. we had to dig like hell to get that far but it was a blast. got plenty muddy!!:cool: Really wanted to get to lym tho and try a lil drunken fishin :beer;:D

Snow

We rode Wolfe Creek Saturday. Still a couple of feet along the road. Flats are really bumpy. Had the kids with us so we didn't go far. I think we are about done. Lots of bikes went by.

Rode wolverine trail on my raptor today. Tons of muddy trails to go sloshin through! Snows toast in the lower regions around Lily. Still some possibilities around Bald Mtn Summit but not much to do around there but boondockin right now. Gate still closed down Mill Creek towards Elizabeth. Kudos to you still riding out there. I think the seasons coming to a close around this end. Stuff pretty rough.. Its fun on the quad early in the morning you can tool around ontop of the snow til about 11am then you start to sink and get stuck. Sleddins toast for us. See ya'll out there next season, maybe an atv trip around the hill is in order? Fishin is starting to take off.. :beer;:beer;:beer;

What the heck do you do to earn a living? Sounds like all you do is get to play in the mountains.:mad: Man life just aint fair. Wanna trade? Buy the way what is your name? :beer;:beer;

well its a sad story actually.. Lived here in the Uintas all my life. Love the ability to go play as I please. Worked in the oil and gas indusrty last 9 years.. pretty much all wyoming has to offer for big money work (til last year or so) Evanston is the nearest town to where we live and we base all of our daily duties in that town. Kamas Utah is another 50 miles over the pass from us but the winter time limits travel to snowmobile only. this last year I was working in Colorado and the construction company I was operating for got laid off by Marathon and 60 of us lost our jobs. Got back to Wyoming to find out that all rigs had disappeared. So now me, my dad, and my brother are all on unemployment:mad: We try to look at the upside by saying, at least were getting paid to dick off but in reality it isn't so.. doesn't look like the economy will pick back up around here for the next few years. We own and operate our numerous small businesses off of our 20 acre plot we've owned for generations. anything from plumbing, roofing, household construction, dirtwork (we own our own equipment i.e backhoe, dumptruck, dozer) and we do whatever we can do now to make a buck. The guided tour business was just a recent Idea given to us by some friends we took touring this last winter. Now were spending our days adding onto our already immaculate shop, doing random jobs, and wrenchin on sleds to get by. Got alot of free time though so my brother and I have been out mapping new trails, finding new climbs, and building our snoX/motoX track in our backyard. So I guess you could say we do alot of playing.. I'd much rather be working and making 10g's a month again. Trevor Harmon's my name, my brother Scott Wright is my partner in crime on the guided tour end of things. We have ridden since I was 5 and when he turned 4 he was right there with me. Used to race yamaha's when we had our rental/sales business sponsored by the yamaha franchise, but all that crumbled when the sport hit a low spot in the late 80's. Franchise pulled the plug and we converted our shop from a sales floor to a mechanics shop. Sorry to sound so koi but we love what we do, we just want to share the enjoyment of our mountains with everyone this next season. we'd like to host a few races which we are working with the forest service to conduct, and just do some fun activities throughout the winter. Used to do a treasure hunt in the winter on sleds (details will be listed soon) and we wanna bring that all back. Huge sledder parties in our 3 acre parking lot and just all around good times are in the furute of the Uintas this next season. Hope you can ALL join us!;):D:beer;:beer;:beer;

We used to do it at night time. Everyone would throw in 10-20 bucks and we'd tape the money to a bottle of Jack Daniels or Jim beam and one person not participating in the hunt would go out within a 5-10 mile radius and hang the bottle from a tree. All the participants would leave from our parking lot and head out different directions til someone stumbled upon it. I'm not sure what clues dad used to leave for everyone but he used to have some quirky riddle to clue you in to where it was. The person who found it got the cash and a bad hangover:D:D:beer;:beer; We did a buncha other stuff too.. like the moffat run which was a 12 mile national type of race with a pot o gold at the end and everything.. my brother and i think it would be some fun winter festivities.. we just trying to get the forest service up here to give us a hand. Steve Rosser is over the North slope division and a longtime family friend of ours so I think we can let the games begin in due time

Treasure Hunt? Easter Egg Hunt? Whatever you want to call it. We have a few things to hunt for. Can you say SPOT??? I hope the hub can ride with his waders on, if it's where we think it is. Can you say POND???
Hector I found the phone. Not on the mountain. At the cabin. LOL! I just figured it was lost. I always put it in that particular zipper and when it wasn't there I just figured I lost it. But little miss ding dong never put it in that day.
Nice eh?
Hector.... When you gettin a dirtbike?

Hector.... When you gettin a dirtbike?
My pa has an xr250 he can borrow... When the snow melts enough to ride, let us know.
It may be tough to persuade him to ride a dirt bike, but I think Hector on a bike would be a hoot!
We will probably have to practice a few days with him in the parking lot.

I have an extra XR250 also. He may need to borrow some shoes from Gene Simmons.:eek:

Haha... My dad was asking hector about getting a dirtbike... May not happen in the near future, but If we get him going on some fire roads/easy trails, maybe he will get the bug.
The rental fee will be a pair of handlebars hector, Most likely you will need a new set after riding... I will make sure the bike you ride has metal bark busters to improve your chances of waiving the rental fee:D
