I know, I know, There's already a million of them in every forum, but after shelling out nearly $50 for my first gallon of VES Gold Plus for this season I am sick of paying that much. I am considering switching to Polaris Blue which is slightly cheaper at about $38/gallon... but am also wondering about other options.

I REALLY miss the smell of the VES GOLD from the last few years and would love to figure out a way to make my oil smell like that but IDK.... Just looking for opinions I suppose... When my buddy ran the Walmart supertech it gave me really bad headaches so I don't really want to go that route.

Thanks:beer;

I just paid 35 bucks a gallon for redline at chandler dist. in toppenish. Mike should be getting more but we bought 6 gallons last sat, there was 1 gallon left on the shelf. It will probably be a little more when he gets more this winter as oil has gone up a little. It was $140.00 a case at the puyallup show. I know the oil threads get pretty heated but I have had good luck with redline and its cheaper than polaris oil.

oil

I run a 50/50 mix Amsoil Interceptor Synthetic and Archer TC-W3 2 cycle oil
just find some thing that fits your budget and run it every one runs some thing different

I have been using Polaris blue for a few years and no problems. Clean valves every 500 miles and not very much carbon. I use it for the same reason for the cost. VES gold here runs around 65-70 a gallon and blue about 40-45.

There was a thread I seen on HCS a guy was doing a bunch of tests on oil here it is. The one doing the test goes by the chemist "testing viscosity,load presure under r.p.m., metal to metal friction test,oxgen reactivity test, 4 ball wear test, foam control under heat, carbon build up test, And how refind the oil is. I recommend only two oil's, Red line two stroke racing oil, and polaris ves gold plus." a quote from his first post, and on his other posts he tells about how the oils square up after he is done them. Didn't read all of them, only got to 50-60 posts as last check was around the 450 mark.

As I said didn't read all of it so don't know if he is legit or not, but from the tests they do sound like he knows what he is doing.

i run ves gold as well but this year i was thinking about running gold in the injection tank then shell mineral 2 stroke oil in the tank instead of gold as well.. i am a believe that synthetic does help lubricate parts Especially when they are under stress. but at the same time people run gold cuz it keeps the valves clean... well if the oil isn't sticking to the valves and gumming them up, then whats to say it not sticking to the piston?

Finishing up my last gallon of gold right now, then switching to amsoil. All the guys around Missoula are running the amsoil and at least one 900 has over 5000 miles on it with original crank running it from day 1.

Got two cases so I will be running it for a while.

I agree Seth... the ves gold smells great coming out of the pipe! All the ves.g controversy aside, I stopped using it mostly because it was bubbling in my oil tank and lines.

I'm burning Shell Advance Snow Ultra this year, smells alright.
Last year I burned Castrol Super Snow, super cheap oil! I think I was paying $16/4L at Walmart. The low end pricing gave me the heebe jeebee's eventually, so I switched to the moderately priced Shell stuff, it's been rated well in some of the big "oil threads".
