Twisted Crank Shaft

I put the first 50 miles of the year on my sled and on the way back to the trailer the motor sounded like the timing was way off. Got towed back and took to my dealer. The Crank shart was twisted 90 degrees. There was another sled in the shop with the same problem. Any one have this happen to them?

90 degrees? I've never heard of that much twist, usually only a few degrees when it happens! Yeah, what sled was it?

08 Summit X with all of the updates done. When the head was pulled both cylinders were top dead center at the same time. I'm glad I got the 2nd year engine warranty, new motor is ordered and i'll have it back in 3 to 4 weeks.

I wonder if a con-rod broke and left one piston at the top of the stroke and the other still running. Never heard of a crank twisting like that. Not that it couldn't have happened, just never heard of such a thing unless it broke completely in two on the center bearing.

We had one here, both pistons had almost the same stroke, it was a 2004 800, mechanic said it was the first one he had seen.
