Twin XP pipes? Big John.

Anyone tried the crankshop or Jaws pipes yet in real world testing. On the crankshop adds they say for sno-x and drag racing only? Why? Could I run them in the hills? How about the Jaws pipes? They available yet? Big John have you tried twins with your big bores on the R motor?

most twin pipes are made to work at WOT, they likely will sacrifice some bottom end and mid range power to work best at max rpm where they will add most of the hp.

Twins are a PIA to tune and are too peaky for most. If you just want to hold it to the bars and go straight then they are ok, but still tough to tune cause of the penny sized power band. If you do any tree riding than definately stay away. I think twins need a lot of compression to help to compromise the loss of bottom end, thus the need for race fuel.

I have ran twin pipes on my past machines a king cat 900 and a sno pro mod 800. Once tuned they worked very well for me. I know the cons of twins, just was wondering how they work on the 800R motor. I am new to Ski-Doo and want the most from my sled, but I also want what will work for me. Twin pipes are not cheap and I don't want to waste a bunch of dough.
Thanks for the help so far.

lots of underhood heat with these onthe XP, that is why jaws never came out with theirs.. Stay stock... my 2 cents..

Anyone have anything else to add on twin pipes... I'm seriously looking at them but really don't want to get them and lose low end torque.

Thoughts?

oh, by the way. I did just talk to Jaws and the receptionist said that the owner is out testing the pipes right now. He'll be back in a few weeks and will update me then.

Until then....

Terra Alps

I hear through the grape vine that Ol' Teddy is working on a set of twins for the XP that are made for high altitude riding. It gets better... They should run around the stock RPM too.

The twin pipes I have ran on my last few sleds have worked very well. They have all been cats though. Dont think there has ever been a set of twins that worked on a doo any better than the stock single. They probably only sell to racers because they dont mind running race fuel and reving the sheit outta thier motor to make more power.
The only twins for the 800R that I would consider are Teds at Terra Alps racing. I dont think he is quite finished with them yet, but he sounds like he has something that will work very well. Hopefully he will chime in and let us all know where he is at on them.

Where do some of you guys get off going around saying twins are too peaky to tune and are not trailable, thats just retarded...

I got the same reaction when i was looking for twins for my rev, according to 99% of the people on this board and dootalk the machine would never work....

Well, after about 10min of tuning i had my crankshops running top notch and never touched the setup for over a year until i pulled them for the turbo!

Never once did i have to touch jetting or clutching, -40c to +10c it was running great and the DPM was still spot on! I rode the sled EVERY DAY (thats how i go to work in the winter) and logged over 5000km on it and surprisingly the sled has over 9000km now and that engine still hasnt grenaded :D

Now, i realise the 800R is a whole new beast, but wouldnt the new style rave valves (versus the single gillutine in the older engines) make a wild set of pipes even more trailable?

I think when most people say that pipes are finiky there talking about high elevation with constant changes in elevation.
I had the mondos too and for twins they didn't seem too finiky but after about 6-7000 ft they got a little tempermental and needed to be tinkered with. I felt the single performed better but it sounds like you need the right port timing to get those CS pipes to run good at elevation.

What elevation were you running them at and what kind of elevation changes did you run them in?

I can't belief how almost the entire sledding community is still brain washed on twin pipes. A good set up twin pipes flat rock in the steep and deep, trees, powder, whatever. All the no low end, peaky, talk is crap. My wifes sled has twin pipes on it...no issues, not hard to tune and makes a single piped 700VES look like a turd.

Now with that being said there are some junk twin pipes out, just like there are some junk singles. Ski-doo has always been known for a good factory single pipe so none of the singles out produce more power, If I where to go pipes it would be twins, but I am going to wait to see how they work first..

Its because 99% of people on these forums have no clue what they are doing and like to talk like they do. You wouldnt believe how many people I know who never touch their sled, have the dealer do all thier work and then get on here and talk like they are experts mechanics.

The fact that the guy is asking about pipes for a ski doo has NOTHING to do with your experiences with Poo or AC motors...apples and oranges.
Some motors respond better with pipes then others so don't sit there and say all these people are brainwashed or have no clue because they're talking about what's at topic......SKI DOO's.
The R motor is new and people are still trying to figure out if twins are going to work or not. Sounds like their getting some pipes to work but what about the long haul....are you going to melt the plastic off your sled, are you going to melt a piston after a few hundred miles???
Time will tell.

WHAAAAT???

I dont think its 99%....theres alot of "good" guys on here...and alot of ??? guys...25,000+ sled heads you get a pretty good selection...LOL-BJ

do the 860terra alps with twins 21% gain at top and lots on the bottom, more then stock. don't ever think a proper built set of twins can't out perform a single.
