Kind of a run down on my fun or lack of.First what I have

2010 xp 154" 0 miles
bought used turbo performance aero 53 kit
20 49 gearing
my own clutching and shock wave helix
exhaust valves are held up
boysen reeds
factory head with turbo cut
home built muffler
install took me 8 hrs.
rerouting hoses and lines another 8hrs.

Now the rest of the story, there were alot of hickups along the way, good thing turbo performance has good customer support. When a guy tells you a 100 different things and I only got 25 or 30 of them, takes more than one phone call.I have had the sled tore appart several times now trying to chase this and that.
My overall opinion is pretty good of this sled and project and I have guys asking me questions saying they want a turbo. Then I tell them the truth about doing it,it is not for everybody and tell them to drag their sled to the guy who builds the kit to have it installed and ride it for 100 miles or so.

The aero 53 works good at 6psi of boost but better at 8 psi and like how clean the install is with no oil tank or pump.Throttle response is all in the clutching and gearing once the carbs are set,in my opinion.

My next turbo will be a etech when they are ready.

In my opinion....

In my opinion I would run a 66. I started with the 53, and it was good. But when I switched to the 66, wow! What a difference in power. Not even the same sled. There are a ton of teething pains no doubt, but when everything comes together after a season and a half of tinkering and pulling out nearly all of your hair, I'm glad I did it. Having said that I'm to the point where I'm buying a stock XP, so I know I'm riding. There are a few things left to do before the sled is what I think a reliable unit. I've found reed pedals and exhaust bellows are my only probs keeping the boost up. I have solutions for those probs, but solutions cost money! I don't want to discourage anyone from a Turbo build, but let it be known you're gonna need a little knowledge, alot of money and a ton of patience. Ben. Custom 04 T-REV.

Any pics and details on the muffler? My turbo is extremely loud and I would like to quite is up some. Most of my problem is probably because my exhaust comes up through the side panel--no exhaust bog but leaves you a headache after a day of riding. Going to change the routing and wanted to add a muffler.

I will get some pics up ,pretty much took a hps can and some 2" pipe used a perferated piece keeping everything 2" strait through like a cherry bomb style ended up with 6" muffler helps a little. You could always dump into the tunnel that seems to be the quietest ?

i really like the set up. with the aero vertical and all. mine is horizontal and i am most likely going to change it. sharp looking with all the blue accents too!

I agree! The 66 is a better match for that engine. Hey I know a guy that might have a R&D turbo he would sell cheap. From time to time we have turbos we have used for R&D and no longer need and can not sell as new.
It looks good! I do like the vertical set ups as well.

yet another 60 miles on this beast tried some different clutching but going back my biggest problem now is helix
